Roselle, Illinois is a small town in central Illinois that was founded in 1834. The town is located just north of the city of Chicago and east of the county seat of Cook County. The population was 9,829 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to Roselle were brothers John and George Roscoe. They were two farmers who started a small shop on the side of a hill in what is now Roslle. In 1835 they married Anna Maria Decker, daughter of Samuel Decker and Eleanor (Haley) Smith. Anna Maria had been born in 1810 near Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Nicholas Decker and his wife Priscilla (Lincoln). Their parents had emigrated from Holland to America when Anna Maria was twelve years old. When John and George died in 1840 their wives took over farming operations; however, they continued to reside in Roslle until their deaths in 1865 and 1868 respectively. In 1852 Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States; during his term he traveled through Illinois giving speeches throughout the state. One such speech occurred at West Dundee Arena in Roslle on April 12th,1852. After his speech he stopped for dinner with some friends at local restaurant before returning home to Roselle where he addressing a crowd gathered on Main Street about twenty people deep including five women who later became mothers: Mrs.[?] Dixon (wife of General John A.] Dixon), Mrs.(?), Mrs.(?), Mrs.(?), Miss[?] Phelps (daughter-in-law of Senator Stephen A.) Phelps),[?]. Other early residents include Salmon Pahler (married December 7th 1850 to Eliza Ann [Dixon] & family), Fayette Muhlenberg ([?]) Maynard ([?], married November 4th 1850 to Sarah Jane [Fenton] Roe)), Daniel Drake ([?]) October 26th 1830 – married March 25th 1862 ? Elizabeth Hinsdale). It should be noted that mostRosendale’s early settlers came from New England or northern Europe while many others arrived after 1840 due primarily to wavesof emigration following American Civil War which swept across Northern Ireland, Great Britain Isles Scotland and Ireland leaving entire communities scattered throughout those countries . Many ROSELLE natives also crossed over into Canada during this time period since there were numerous opportunities for passageduring those difficult times

The city of Roselle, Illinois is located in the northeastern corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 31,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a rich history dating back to its incorporation as a town in 1868. Roselle was named for Rosa Luxemburg, an eminent German revolutionary who fought for socialism in her homeland before moving to America in 1871. The city’s first store opened on State Street in 1872. By 1890, Roselle had a population of over 100 people and was home to two schools – one public and one private – as well as a synagogue and post office. In 1902, Rosalie Post Office moved from its original location on West Side Road to what is now First National Bank Building (now Bank of America). This building served as the town’s courthouse until 1954 when it was replaced by the current Roselle Courthouse Annex. During World War II, Roselle was both an important war production center and popular tourist destination due to its beautiful architecture and natural resources such as coal mines and lumber mills. After the war ended, many businesses closed down or were sold off while others migrated into new neighborhoods such as River North or Bronzeville. Today, Roselle is still known for its large Jewish community which makes up about 60% of its total population; its legacy includes two synagogues (one Holocaust memorial), three elementary schools (three woodlands Elementary School are now high school), five churches (four Catholic - St. John's Evangelist Church & Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic School & Sacred Heart RomanCatholic School), four libraries (one branch opened after amalgamation with Park Ridge Library System) and numerous small businesses including several restaurants and boutiques along State Street corridor that have made it a popular shopping destination for residents from all over Northwest Chicago since before Prohibition ended in 1933.
Roselle was founded in 1833 by Nathaniel Roscoe and his wife, Anne. The town was named for a rose which bloomed in the Roscoe farmstead. In 1854, the Rosoces donated land to build the first school in Roselle. The town's first mayor was John A. Dickey and its first clerk was Elijah Bigham. In 1865, the town voted to become a city and it did so on November 4th of that year.
