American entrepreneurs took up these calls leading to Steel Works opened along with sawmills soon afterwards followed by railroads making sure all goods moved quickly hither & yon reducing transportation costs for everyone involved! In short University Ridge or “the Ridge” soon came into being becoming home to some very rich men whose families proudly claimed descent from English nobility beginning with De Forest himself who founded Northwestern University here back in 1795! With railroad access (and later air travel)University Heights slowly sprang up around central urbandale becoming today’s prized shopping district complete with high end boutiques and restaurants etc………just imagine if today’s downtown urbania consisted only of high rises overlooking everything you could want while Park Row sat mainly lowrise buildings smack dab in between giving off an impression that wealthier folk live nearby but no one actually does…..boy would things have been different didn’t they?
