Washington, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Cook County. On October 15th 1830 Smithville was founded as one result when John Broughton purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) along State Road 12 north from Aaron Burr’s tavern in Bloomingdale Township (now Elmhurst). This village would later become one of Chicago’s most important neighborhoods with many businesses moving into Smithville including Sears Roebuck & Co., Wrigley’s Coffee House (now known as Joe’s Place), Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and other major firms during its early days including Armour & Co., McCormick & Company (later Koch Foods), United States Steel Corporation (later ArcelorMittal) and Eisenthal Brewery Ltd.. Chicago had been growing rapidly but rural development remained slow due to lack of infrastructure such as roads or water systems which hindered agricultural growth particularly among small farmers who generally did not have access to markets or capital needed for large industrial ventures; this situation changed with railroad construction beginning after the American Civil War providing greatly increased access both eastward via railroads into central Illinoisan towns like Peoria Junction where goods could be transshipped to eastern markets while also increasing travel opportunities available through Interstates 79/880 etc.; these developments led Pullman Palace Car Manufacturing Company president Daniel Burnham to remark “It will not be long before we are all rich people here – they just need good transportation facilities!” The first wave of immigrants arriving in America arrived fleeing religious persecution such as discrimination against Jews at home or abroad; many Poles built homes near Harrisonburg Landing on Lake Erie while others settled around Moline on Decatur Street between First Avenue South and Western Avenue North; these families developed businesses manufacturing everything from candlesto cigarsand hardware prior to World War I when their products were confiscated by U.S Immigration officials upon entry despite pressures from western business interests seeking cheap labor on wartime production lines . Aftermath: Many small local businesses reopened following war years but massive job losses followed postwar recession amidst increasing competition from larger manufacturers especially those based outside America resulting in mass migration westward across Interstate 80 leading eventually to today's downtown Chicago skyline flanked only by suburban suburbs

In 1896, Belleville was added to Springfield; this community quickly became one of America's largestaloofs because of its many industries (including leather tanning) and its proximity to large shopping centers
