In 1907–08 Dodge City built its first water tower to provide municipal services with Purcell's Spring flowing into it from Wellesley Creek about southeast of town. In 1912–13 construction began on a new city hall which replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. The building was completed in 1915 and served as town hall until it burned down in 1967. During World War II, Dodge City played an important role as a military supply depot due to its location near Wichita and its connections to railroads that transported goods eastward across country. In 1945–46 when Wichita became an independent city, Dodge City lost much of its importance but continued to serve as its primary commercial center until after Wichita's incorporation into Wichita Metropolitan Area in 2000. Today, Dodge City remains principally known for its population of Native Americans who live withinits boundaries or visit for cultural reasons; although some small businesses continue to operate hereabouts

Dodge City is a small town in Kansas, United States, on the Wichita River. The population was 9,753 at the 2010 census. Dodge City was founded by prospectors in 1872. In 1907, Dodge City became the site of the first municipal election in Kansas. A new courthouse and jail were built around this time; both still stand today. The 1920s were a time of great transformation for Dodge City; changes included the addition of a water tower to serve as its civic center (the first such structure in Kansas). In 1927, construction began on what would become known as "The White House", later replaced by another building that remains standing today: The State Capitol Building (now called the Legislative Building). This building served as the seat of government for all fifty-eight districts within Wichita County until 1959 when Topeka took over that role. During World War II, much activity took place in and around downtown Dodge City; many plants were constructed or rebuilt during that time period to produce munitions needed for war effort including several heavy weapons plants operated by EMI/BBC America located on Third Street between First Avenue and Seventh Street NW.Throughout 1945-1946 local businessmen organized campaigns to persuade then Governor Elmer Robinson to appropriate money for necessary repairs to Main Street Bridge across Wichita River which had been badly damage by floods following severe rainsstorm earlier that year... As efforts intensified $1 million dollars was eventually appropriated but no major repairs were ever carried out due primarily because bridge funds became available again only after passage of state highway bill which severely diluted also locally raised funds through various sales tax initiatives
