The company was started by James W. Dodge and his brother-in-law John Schieffer in 1892. In 1903, Harry Hennessey started a Pistol Shop on Main Street in downtown Dodge City. In 1912, he merged with John Davenport’s Davenport Firearms Company to form the Hennessey-Davenport Corporation. Harry Hennessey continued to run the shop until his death in 1943. In 1930, Jens Jensen founded Jens Jensen Holsters located at 601 E First St in downtown Dodge City. Jens Jensen was a very successful holster designer and manufacturer during his time with the company. He is considered one of the most influential designers of holsters ever created. In 1951, Raul Hernandez established a Holster Manufacturing business on Broadway Street just north of Main Street in downtown Dodge City. This business became known as Hernandez Holsters and continues to operate today under that name. Raul Hernandez was an extremely successful holster designer and manufacturer during his time with the company
