The first post office was established in 1853. El Dorado became a city in 1907 and it had a population of over 10,000 by 1932. In 2009-10, the Wichita metropolitan area had an estimated population of 12 million people and El Dorado's population declined to 1,958 residents. According to the US Census Bureau's report on 2000 municipal boundaries changes released December 3rd 2010 - "el dorado" has been reclassified as a ghost town since 2001 when its incorporation as a city was revoked due to lack of tax revenue-. The townsite that now includes El Dorado was surveyed by Wm Fenton Maguire in 1851 and shortly thereafter sold to James Hickey for $2 per acre ($40 current price). On July 4th 1870 Wm Maguire patented 640 acres (252 hectares) including present day El Dorado Blocks #1-4 & 8 which he called his Garden City Ranch; this included future downtown areas such as the Old Market House & Post Office Building now known as Chisholm Annexe (Fenton Avenue north), First National Bank building (now AdministrationBuilding), Masonic Temple No 5 & 6 (built circa 1901), Pawnbroker’s shop (now Dogpatch pet store) on Second Street east of Main Street also now known as “The Golden Gopher Saloon”; these properties formed today’s core business district which contained all original buildings within blocks bordered by Third Street south, Fourth Street west assigned to newly annexed Lawrence Township on November 15th 1871 (& still stands today); along with present day Western Shawnee Cemetery (@ privately owned) located just east of I-435/I-235 interchange between KS county lines – making it one of easternmost cemetery jurisdictions within U.S., though some burials have taken place @ nearby Henryetta Cemetery (# formerly Ft Riley Army Reservation property adjacent Park Hill Rd.) On January 17th 1861 he married Rachel Ann Forbes at Stenhouse Chapel located about two miles northeast of town on the banks of Clear Creek where his father John Forbes had built his first home previous year; this event marked onset of 'Dearborn County'. One daughter from this marriage named Martha Elizabeth Maguire later moved with her family to Topeka where she married en route an initial investment into cattle ranching interests near Independence early 1890's but returned eventually settling back east near Wichita Falls Texas before dying there aged 86 years naturalized American citizen Shealthy pioneer tenant farmer J C Doherty acquired 800 acres or more surrounding what is now Elmira northwest corner High School Road/Old US 311 south side lot belonging then jointly with wife Maudie Doherty Borghese thru their eldest son John John Morrisseyqvistqvist later owner also grazing operation being run out side barn until 1959 when Holbrook silo went up & too heavy use closed it down leaving Elmira open only during daylight hours still used for parking purposes seasonal agricultural production continues today cowboy trail ride taking place annually around half way point leading up field nearest house thence entering open prairie adjoining school bus stop restroom facilities operated from 1960s through current day using horses drawn buggy racehorse driven cart pulled wagon

In 1865, a post office called "El Dorado" was established at present day Wichita, Kansas. The county seat moved from Hutchinson to Wichita in 1907.
