The bay that Westwood bayou runs through was first settled by Norse people in the early 1600s and named after Thorvald Amundsson, who owned property in what is now Westbrook. The first settler in what is now Westbrook was John Goodall, who built a cabin on Bayou Westerville in 1793. In 1814, Captain Samuel Morse discovered copper near Westbrook while mapping his route between Boston and New York City; he named this creek after him because it ran close to his home property. In 1853, John Fenton set up a blacksmith shop in what became known as Fenton's Cornerstone along with his son-in-law Ezra Stiles; this business served as the nucleus for present day Westbrook. In 1861, when Maine became a state, Westbrook voted to become its capital; however, due to flooding during a storm that year, Kingston was chosen as its permanent capital instead. The town developed quickly due to its advantageous location on Penobscot Bay; access to transportation such as ferries made it easy for goods and passengers to flow into or out of Westbrook throughout much of its history. This prosperity also led to social change within the community: during prohibition times (1920–1925), many storefronts were closedtered and used for housing; but since then many businesses have reopened including several restaurants and bars which continue operation today despite Prohibition taxes not being collected anymore

Their system utilized an electronicMagnifying Lens (EML) which allowed shooters to track movement on target using red and green lasers instead of just visible light like earlier systems did. This sight became known as Hughes 3D Gunsight and remained popular until about 1990 when newer technologies began becoming available making this type of firearm sight increasingly difficult to use without proper training

By 1825, the population of Westbrook had reached 1,500 people and it became an important transportation hub in western Maine. In 1855, Westbrook was incorporated as a town and began to make advances in local education and infrastructure.During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Westbrook experienced rapid growth due to its role as a commercial center for the surrounding area. In 1912, the town built its first school which remains one of the most prominent buildings intown today.In 1938, Westbrook was hit hard by a natural disaster which destroyed many homes and businesses including its only hospital. Despite this setback, Westbrook continued to grow during World War II thanks to its strong industrial base which produced munitions such as tanks and planes. During peacetime, both the economy and population have decreased but continue to grow thanks to new development around town such as new housing developments and shopping centers
