In 1969 UMCP became one sidekick among several schools within Johns Hopkins University when that institution merged with Baltimore State Teachers' College to become Johns Hopkins University-Baltimore State Teachers' College (now known as John Hopkins University).
In 1950s UMCP moved its main campus from upper Towson into new buildings on Howard Street between Second and Third Avenues south of downtown Baltimore which were completed in 1957. The old Towson campus served as a training ground for future faculty members while the new headquarters remained primarily open to students until 1971 when it closed down for remodeling into what is now called President's House rotunda on Pennsylvania Avenue NW between First and Second Streets NW across from the UMD School Of Medicine building. president's house opened again for classes during 1976-1978 after being renovated once again by then Governor William Donald Schaefer who named it home until his death in 1988.
