Salisbury, Maryland is a small town located in the northern portions of Prince George’s County, Maryland. The population was 8,695 at the 2010 census. It is bordered on the south by Salisbury Township and on the north by Upper Marlboro Township. Thetown has a history dating back to 1693 when it was part of Frederick County. According to the History of Prince George’s County website, gun targets were first developed in Salisbury during World War II as part of Project Mockingbird which aimed to learn about American military forces from enemy sources. Gun targets continue to be used today as a training ground for law enforcement officers and members of other First Amendment rights organizations across Prince George’s County. In 1892 William Hargrave donated land for a rifle range in what is now Salisbury Township. The range was called “The Hargrave Rifle Range and Ammunition Depot” and served as an important source of ammunition for local militias until 1935 when it became part of Upper Marlboro Township. In 1955, Lower Marlboro Township transferred ownership of the depot to Upper Marlboro Township which continued to use it until 1984 when it became part of Salisbury Municipal Airport. Gun targets in Salisbury, Maryland have been a part of American history for over a century. The city was founded on May 14, 1871 by the merger of two small communities in Prince George's County. It became an important center for gun industry and agriculture during the late 19th century, and saw some of the most infamous shootings in United States history. In 1916, a shootout between Prohibition agents and saloonkeepers in Salisbury led to the deaths of six people. The industry declined after World War I, but it reemerged during the Civil Rights Movement as African Americans began to find work in nearby Baltimore. Gun violence increased in Salisbury throughout the 1970s and 1980s, but has since fallen off dramatically.

Salisbury is known for itsPEAKS festival and its annual apple orchard festival. The first settler in present-day Salisbury was George Peake, who arrived in 1784. He built a log cabin on the east bank of the Potomac River, about two miles southeast of present-day Salisbury. Peake had a daughter named Sarah who married John Nicholson and they lived next door to each other until Sarah's death in 1814. From 1807 to 1818, Nathaniel Webb lived at 164 Main Street which he called "Our Lady's School". In 1821, John Hagerty moved from his home on Spring Garden Road to purchase land along the riverbank west of present day Salisbury and began to build what would become Hagerty’s Storehouse (later renamed Webb’s Store). On July 4th, 1830, Jno. Hagerty donated land for use as a public square located between First and Second streets which became known as “Hagerty Square” today. In 1870 when Frederick Douglass settled in nearby Northwest Baltimore he purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of forested rolling countryside including what is now Salisbury from Nicholas Culpeper 2nd Baron Hardwicke on behalf of African Americans living within the limits of Baltimore City Limits southward to Druid Hill Park where they were able to cultivate crops without fear of discrimination or violence originating from white landowners within their boundaries. This purchase represented an important milestone not only because it provided Douglass with access far beyond his racial background but also because it signaled that black people could own property withinBaltimore City Limits while remaining subject to all forms of municipal regulation insofar as their behavior within those limits was concerned

Salisbury is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,823 at the 2010 census. Salisbury is part of the Washington Metropolitan Area. The first settler in what would become Salisbury was Nicholas Roanoke in 1624. He and his family were among the earliest to arrive in what is now Prince George's County. A post office called Salisbury was established in 1792, and remained open until 1885. As most of present-day Salisbury developed, it was principally through agriculture that it enjoyed a significant presence until more recent decades when manufacturing became an important aspect of its economy as well. As early as 1771, Oliver Cromwell had ordered Major John Smith to survey land for new plantations in present day Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties - this area later became known as West Point on Mount Vernon Estate (now Chevy Chase). When the British military moved from their original encampment near Annapolis to West Point during the American Revolution, they discovered vast tracts of virgin forest which they wanted to exploit for lumber and slavery respectively. They also ran into some difficulty finding settlers who were willing or able to purchase these lands; many felt that Britain should not have occupied America given its lack of support system back then. Eventually though, Smith managed to identify a group of men who were willing to sell their land - including some veterans from the Revolutionary War - for £5000 per acre with no right of occupancy granted them whatsoever! This deal sparked off a period where Virginians began migrating en masse towards Maryland looking for opportunities encounter new cultures and landscapes while escaping British rule – this migration has been cited as one reason why Maryland has seen such rapid growth over the past century despite struggling economically during much of that time frame (e.g., falling crime rates). In 1817 Frederick Douglass moved from Baltimore to become one of the first blacksmiths working on farms near Westminster (now Takoma Park). His shop soon became known throughout parts of Northern Virginia for forge work on cannons and other artillery pieces needed by Patriot forces fighting against British General George Washington’s Continental Army during both World Wars I and II – something which helped contribute significantly to increased demand for materials after both wars ended>. In 1881 Douglass along with other African Americans founded The National Afro-American League (NAAL) here in Salisbury after seeing little opportunity available beyond Philadelphia due primarily theretotowhite patronage within D'Arcy LaFayette Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.. After years working tirelessly alongside white supremacists/ segregationists local officials finally approved zoning regulations forbidding Negroes from living anywhere within 100 feet (>=of business)of any white person without special permission – effectively prohibiting him from doing anything like owning property or working on any kindable basis within town limits! This repression led eventually to numerous protests throughout town against discriminatory zoning policies over ensuing years culminating with incorporation into neighboring jurisdictions at various points during those years... It wasn't until 1948 when Ethel Waters successfully campaigned unsuccessfully against passage by MD State Senate bill 8057 seeking integrated public schools within town limits – resulting ultimately in passage by state House bill 6398 allowing all children living within 1 mile (<2 blocks) radius inclusive Of elementary schools an equal number thereof access To education regardless Of race or color! This watershed moment marked an incredible victory For civil rights Activism InMarylandand helped create An era Of change And Opportunity For All Residents!.
