After purchasing additional land near by he established Grider Farmstead in 1830 which became one of the largest dairy farms in New England due to its high quality milk production until it ceased operations around 1960. In 1835, Reverend James Gee donated land to be used for religious instruction with an academy being built on it known as Gee Academy which continues to operate today as Wellesley Academy. In 1837–38, Reverend Thomas Pain opened a school at Greenfield Mills called Palestine School becoming one of the leading schools for girls during that time period also serving as a model for similar schools throughout New England In 1845, Charles Goodrich donated 2 acres off Depot Street north of Main Street to become what would become Goodrich Park while another 500 acres were donated by brewer Curtis Loomis giving him more than 4 square miles (10 km²) within what are now Holyoke village limits This area would eventually be annexed into neighboring Wellesley Village when that village began expanding outwards following its own incorporation on July 1st 1800 . This event leads many people to believe that Holyoke may have been chartered first or even graced with city status before this annexation occurred however this idea cannot be fully confirmed without further research . By 1870 though all but 3 blocks within present dayHolyoke had been annexed into Wellesley Village making it difficult if not impossible to determine exactly when or how City Status may have come about .
