As part of this ordinance change, all property taxes within Alexandria were raised to fund local services rather than being shared with Ramsey County which continued to provide all major services provided by our village including fire protection, police response and zoning regulation until 1988 when that responsibility was transferred back over to county government following a referendum vote sponsored by our own Village Councilmember Norma Jorgensen (D). Since then we have made great strides especially given that we are still unincorporated with no elected officials or governing body other than Our Village Councilmember Norma Jorgensen herself who chairs every meeting plus provides leadership day-to-day while also moonlighting as chairwoman for several committees including Town Hall Affairs Committee & Beautification Committee & Finance Committee As mentioned before everything within our village boundaries falls directly under Our Village Councilmember Norma Jorgensen's jurisdiction whether it be fire protection/police response/zoning regulation etc...We're blessed with some great leaders like Our Councillor Norma Jorgensen herself who leads us every single day!
