Eagan, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Ramsey County. As of 2016, Eagan had a population of 56,903 people. The city is named after General John A. Eagan who led American forces during World War I and served as the director of military intelligence for the United States Senate from 1917 to 1919. The current mayor is Rebecca Kleefisch and the City Council has nine members. Eagan was founded in 1881 by farmers on the east side of present-day Eagan Lake between what are now Bloomington and Maple Grove Roadways. In 1906, it was incorporated as a city and rapidly grew due to its location near railroads and other transportation hubs. By 2000, it had become one of Minnesota's fastest-growing cities with over 100 new businesses opening each year, making it one of both larger metropolitan areas (with over 1 million residents) in Metro Minneapolis/St Paul Area (MSA) and also one with significant concentrations within certain districts (such as downtown). In 2016, Forbes listed Eagan as "the most affordable major metro area in America." The rapid growth has caused some problems; for example, while groundwater resources have been plentiful since creation of the city's main water supply system more than 160 years ago, earlier planning did not account for future needs such as increasing populations or demands for more services like wastewater treatment plants which were built decades later when infrastructure became much better developed statewide. Another problem is that many homes were built too close together on small lots so that streets are wide but no sidewalks exist between houses - this presents challenges when trying to walk^ bike or drive around neighborhoods without getting lost or feeling intimidated by high-density housing developments close to busy intersections. Despite these issues, however, overall Eagan has managed to maintain its status as an ascending force within its local community – becoming home to several prestigious universities including St Cloud State University[1] and two professional sports teams: The Timberwolves (NBA) basketball team[2]and MNUFC soccer team[3].

But like most small towns throughout the state, its economy revolves around agriculture and housing development within easy reach of downtown Eagan. The history of Eagan begins with an act of Congress on July 3, 1881 when US Congressman John Acheson proposed that Hennepin County be divided into two counties: Ramsey and Stearns. The idea behind this proposal was to make easier transportation between these two areas which were then both rural and agricultural societies respectively. In addition to making travel more accessible for farmers living near Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport, this would also open up new land for manufacturing and other businesses within the county boundaries. The residents of Ramsey decided to name their town after their congressman while those from Stearns chose Eagan as their town’s initial name because they thought it sounded like “a sound rather than an actual word” according to historian William Janson Crouch III who writes about the history of Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport in his book entitled "The Metropolitan Museum Years: 1890-1910". This naming decision helped solidify the connection between these two regions despite different cultural backgrounds and histories which continued until well into the 21st century when changes in technology have made communication more difficult or even impossible across vast distances like those found between Ramsey and Stearns today!
