The Elk River Ammunition Plant was founded in 1907 by J.P. Ladd and his son, Charles C. Ladd. The plant was originally located on the east side of the river in what is now Elk Rapids Township. In 1916, the plant relocated to its present location on the west side of the river in what is now Elk River Township. The plant produced ammunition for shotguns and rifles until it closed its doors in 1959. A large portion of the plant’s collection still remains today and is open to the public as a museum. Since 1907, when J.P. Ladd and his son, Charles C., founded Elk River Ammunition Plant, this facility has been responsible for manufacturing some of Minnesota’s most popular firearms products including shotguns, rifles, handguns and rounds for all sorts of cannons! Today, visitors can enjoy access to a wide variety of exhibits about ammunition history at this important stop on their firearms journey!

The propellant gas within the cartridge case, which creates force as it moves down the barrel, delivers this energy to the bullet as it leaves the gun. The powder in an ammunition round development started with early explosive powders developed by British chemists in 1848. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman Introduced rifled cannon into battle during Vicksburg Campaign and soon after American armament began using new blackpowder rounds that fired projectiles with greater range than muzzle loading cannons. Today, most cartridges are loaded with either lead or silver bullets for maximum damage potential against targets at close range; however, there are also many hollow point rounds available specifically for hunting large game such as deer or bear. Ammunition can be bought pre-loaded with different types of bullets for various shooting sports including target practice, self defense, and competition purposes.
The Elk River Ammunition Company was founded in 1892 by George W. McConnell and brothers John and Harry Cramer, located in Elk River, Minnesota. The company manufactured ammunition for the Union Army during the Civil War. In 1865, the company merged with the Minneapolis Armory to form the Minneapolis-Elk River Arsenal. The armory was closed in 1907 and its ammunition inventory transferred to a new plant at Stillwater, Minnesota.
Elk River is a small, rural community located in Elk River County, Minnesota. The population was 927 at the 2000 census. The community is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first European to visit Elk River was Pierre LeMaire on July 14, 1781. He and his party were exploring the upperMississippi River when they came across the river's confluence with the Mississippi near present day Elk River. French traders and travelers visited the area for many years until 1854, when a treaty ceded much of present-day Minnesota to Great Britain in the Treaty of Paris following its victory in the Mexican–American War. The town of Elk River began developing around this time as settlers migrated from farms and villages in central Minnesota into what became known as "the new country". By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Elk River Township and Village. In 1871, a post office was established at Deerhorn Creek and mail service began between Deerhorn Creek and Hudson City on Decatur Lake. In 1905, a millrace was built through which water ran for irrigation purposes from Deerhorn Creek to nearby Metzger Lake; however, this mill closed by 1911 because of low commodity prices associated with World War I. The Community House Museum opened in 1966 as part of an effort to promote local history within the community; it remains open today as a cultural resource center for local residents and visitors alike. During World War II, several heavy industries were developed within or near Elmira; these included paper production (1942), automotive assembly (1945), shipbuilding (1946), ammunition manufacturing (1948) and electric power generation (1949). However, all but one company departed after war ended; Elmira's last industry died out in 1957 when Northern Bell Labs merged with Western Electric Company to form Bell Labs Incorporated. A post office was established at Elk River on April 15, 1907; it remained operational until December 12th, 1963 when it changed its name to Hastingsville Post Office after Hastingsville Avenue became available east of downtown Minneapolis via Uptown Boulevard project efforts spearheaded by Mayor John Norquist Jr.. In 1969 - 1970 two new elementary schools were built adjacent to each other along Uptown Boulevard: New Beginnings Elementary School & Holy Cross Middle School both serving grades K-8 while Prairie View A&M High School served grades 9-12 prior to their merger into Hennepin County’s District 5 East school system that year creating “Hastingsvile Unified School District” which continued operation through 2018 Dual enrollment program offering high school students opportunities to attend both schools during lunchtime allowing children from Pinellas Park/Hastingsvile Elementary Schools & East Harlem Middle School / Early Childhood Learning Center also have access Elkhart Central High School opportunities . Prior thereto Elmira Area Intermediate Unit No 1 served students primarily throughout economically deprived areas eastern side only

Elk River is a river in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It flows from the North Dakota border to the Missouri River. The Elk River Valley was originally inhabited by the Hennepin and Ojibwe people, and later by Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish settlers. The first European to see the valley was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1493. In 1821, a treaty between Great Britain and Russia established Boundary Waters Commission land east of the Mississippi River as part of that country's attempt to gain control over Canada. The Treaty of Washington left most of what is now Elk River south of this line. By 1902, most of the eastern side had been bought by Minneapolis Water Company; however, water rights on both banks remained with Native Americans until 1959 when they were purchased by city officials who used them for sanitation purposes only. The town of Elk Rapids was founded on November 6, 1869 at an intersection where present-day US Highway 2 (MN 75) crosses state line into Manitoba. At first it consisted onlyof men working on construction projects for local entrepreneur John Auld; other early pioneers included James Prentice (1836-1912), Andrew McNaught (1839-1915), William Waddell (1853-1922), George Waddell (1861-1940), Hiram Sivley (1863-1945), James Fenton(1864-)and Frank Pearson(? - after 1916). The Town Board began meeting in May 1870 under charter # 9759 from Joel Potterton as "the governing body for all unincorporated areas withinthis Township." On October 1st 1870 new township map shows 4 townships including Elk Rapids with their own boards: Chisago Heights northeast corner ; Eden Prairie northwest corner ; Maple Grove southeast corner ; and New Alexandria southwest corner . Settlement continued apace but due to wood scarcity there were few buildings built until after 1900 when lumber became available from mills near Hastings . In 1871 real estate agent Masons & Brokers started selling lots around town for $5 each which led to name change to "Elk Rapids" on December 15th 1870 . After some confusion about what village boundaries should be called upon incorporation into town it was decided that name would remain "Elk Rapids" even though mailing address changed in 1895 because post office moved out west across Stroudsburg Creek bridge which connected Moose Lake County with Iron Range County
