Fergus Falls, Minnesota is a town in tribal County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. The Fergus Falls Indian Reservation is located in the town. The first settlers of what is now Fergus Falls were French Canadian voyageurs who came down the Western Canada Trail in 1818 and 1819. They named their new settlement after their leader, François de laFontaine (1685-1758), Sieur de La Salle's guide on his North American Expedition of 1768-1769. By 1830, many English farmers had moved into this area and renamed it "Fergus Falls," because they thought that the name would make people think of fur traders instead of Indians when they visited. A post office was established at Fergus Falls in 1836, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1855, a group of Norwegian immigrants settled here and began to raise livestock and grow crops. In 1860, they founded the Presentation Lutheran Church which remains one of the largest churches in town today. The first school opened in 1865; it was later closed due to high tuition rates for students from out-of-state schools at that time. In 1916 a gas station/restaurant called "The Gas House" became available near downtown Fergus Falls for residents to fuel up before going about their business or taking a walk around town during summertime; it served as a social center for residents for many years afterwards. It wasn't until 1958 when Interstate 35E was built through the area that commercial development truly began to take off here; since then various businesses have sprung up along I-35E including The Ice Cream Shop & Cafe (now defunct), Walmart Supercenter (now Target), KFC World (now Pizza Hut), etc., making this once rural community one of the most active shopping areas west of Minneapolis/St Paul! The current elementary school building was completed in 1966 with funds raised by selling candy bars from local farms during Halloween season; however its popularity soon caught up with it and it has been used intermittently ever since as an apartment complex!

Fergus Falls is a city in and the county seat of Fergus County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 815 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1872 by James A. Robertson and named after Fergus Falls, a small stream near his farm. The city took its name from a nearby waterfall. The first post office in Fergus Falls was established on July 14, 1872, and was called "Robertson." On October 2, 1875, the post office changed its name to "Fergus Falls". The first incorporated business in the town was the "Fergus Flour Mill" operated by H.J. Wiegand and Sons. In 1886, Sibley & Company built a flour mill on the now east side of town about one mile north of where it still stands today on what is now State Highway 20 (now Interstate 45). The company also built a sawmill on South Main Street in 1896-97; this mill remains standing as of 2010. In 1911-12,[4] Fergus Falls became part of metropolitan Minneapolis and lost its independent identity; however, it continues to be known as an important center for education within Minneapolis' larger community. In 1929-30[5], ice cream manufacturing began operations at two local stores - one owned by John Haglund (later Jello Bizarro) and one managed by Myron Keithman - becoming one of America's leading innovators in that industry during that time period.[6] In 1961-62[7], when Minneapolis consolidated with St Paul into their largest municipal government ever,[8] Fergus Falls became part of that municipality through annexation; however, it retains its ownidentity as an important center for education within Minneapolis'. Since then various businesses have moved into or been relocated to downtown Fergus Falls including Target Stores Inc., Belk Department Store,[9] Macy's Toy Mall,[10] Applebees restaurant,[11][12][13][14][15],[16][17],[18][19],[20] as well as plans for retail development which are currently moving forward but include no details yet about when or if these projects will actually occur
