Greenwood, Mississippi is home to a number of Red Dot Sight locations. The first red dot sight in Greenwood was established in 1945 by Private First Class Harry G. Smith and Sergeant Dick Breslin. The location was on the now demolished concrete wall that surrounded the old United States Air Force Base. At that time, it was one of the few active red dot sights in the area. In 1957, Greenwood became home to its second red dot sight when Major General Luther Strange placed an order for two new gunsights from Herstal company in Germany. These new gunsights were installed at Fort Polk Army Base and were used by both military and civilian members of the community until 1984 when they were transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia due to Budget constraints. In 1992, Greenwood became home to its third red dot sight when Captain John Crouch opened his own business called "Red Dot Sight". There he began selling optics components and accessories for reddot sights including mounts, stocks and cases. He would continue this business until his death in 2003. Throughout their history, these three red dot sights have helped contribute to the development of many local businesses and residents in Greenwood. Today there are more than twenty-five green fieldred dot sights located throughout Mississippi with over two thousand individual owners who use them daily for all sorts of purposes from hunting to shooting competitions. Many people argue that red dots are not only a great way to target enemies during combat but also provide commanders with accurate information during city engagements or everyday patrols as well!
Red dot sight is a type of sighting device used by shooting enthusiasts to aim their firearms at targets with precision. This new model became known as the Bobmarlin Red Dot." In 1994, Winchester adopted the Red dots model 6A airgun scope which featured 4x magnification capabilities for increased range when hunting game at greater distances than ever before possible without sacrificing power or accuracy potential. also in 1994 Winchester released their own version of this scope called "Winchester Centurion", featuring 5x magnification capabilities along with standard mil-dot reticles for superior ranging ability when hunting larger game than ever before possible! This increase in magnification capability allowed shooters to achieve longer ranges even beyond 50 yards without penalty! In 1995 both Ruger & Remington introduced Red Dot products into their linesups; Ruger's models utilized 10x magnifications while Remington's models utilized 15x magnification capabilities intended specifically for long range use! Though initially designed as performance modifications only for hunters who desired even further distance capability beyond 50 yards, these changes soon became popular among sport shooters across all levels because they offered significant improvements over traditional scopes catering just to those seeking greater accuracy potential out beyond that particular range limit! Greenwood, Mississippi was founded in 1833 by General John C. Greenwood and his wife, Rachel. The town was named for the nearby Greenwood Plantation. The town became a center of cotton production and commerce after theplantation's owner, James M. Jackson, built the first gin in Greenwood in 1835. The town's population grew rapidly during its early years, reaching over 2,000 by 1845. However, beginningin1850s Greenwood experienced a series of economic setbacks which contributed to its decline. Most noticeably, Jackson sold his share of the plantations in 1850 and moved away fromthetown to Yazoo City. In 1870 Greenwood had only 4 residents remaining; it had ceased to be an important community due to its lack of industry and commercial opportunities. Greenwood slowly regained some of its former prosperity during the late 1800s and early 1900s thanks to new industrial development along Interstate 55 and several agricultural plantations that were bought andlease by wealthy Mississippians such as William Randolph Hearst. However, World War I (1914-1918) interrupted these trendsand led to renewed economic difficulties for Greenwood throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attackedand Great Britain entered World War II (1939-1945), Greenwood lost much of its manufacturing base including mostofits textile industry; however it continued to experience increased tourism dueto postwar interest in Mississippi's history and culture. Greenwood was first settled by African Americans in 1821. The town was named for Greenwood, Mississippi, the home of General Andrew Jackson. The town was incorporated in 1836 and became a center of cotton production. In the early 20th century, Greenwood experienced difficult times due to its location on the edge of an important cotton ginnery and its dependence on white labor. However, growth came during the Great Depression when Greenwood became one of the most prosperous towns in Mississippi. During World War II, Greenwood served as a plant for Allied war munitions production.
