Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri was a small town in northeastern Missouri before the turn of the 20th century. It consists of about 6,000 residents and had its peak population around 1900. At that time, Bellefontaine Neighbors was home to an airgun range that operated from 1901 until it closed in the early 1920s. The range played a significant role in BellefontaineNeighbors’ history and culture. The first airgun range in BellefontaineNeighbors was opened by two men named John Wiegand and Harry Kappenberger in 1901. They operated out of a building on Main Street. The airgun range became very popular and attracted many people from surrounding towns. By 1912, there were at least six other airguns ranges operating in Bellefontaine Neighbors. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for Bellefontaine Neighbors due to World War I. However, things began to improve after 1919 when America entered World War II. This time saw an increase in business as people turned to wartime needs such as ammunition and guns for protection against enemies abroad. That same year saw the opening of another airgun range – this one on Cemetery Road – which helped make BellefontaineNeighbor's economy even stronger during wartime times. Bellemontayne Neighbor's peak population occurred between 1900 and 1920 thanks to its largeairgunrangeanditsactivemarketplaceforguns.(1) After that point, the community slowly declined as more people moved away or died off than came back into it during the late 19th century.(2) However, some aspects of local life remain distinctly reminder of those earlier days: Airguns still play a major role throughout Belmontayne Neighborhood today; indeed, they are often considered one of our town's most important cultural icons

In 1902, Bellefontaine became an incorporated town in St Francois County, Missouri. By 1966, it had a population of 2,569 residents. In that year, it merged with Scott City to form Bellefontaine-Scott City Township. As of 2000, its population was 3,711 people. Bellefontaine Neighbor's history begins with its founding as a small town within St Francois County in 1881. John C Bellefontaine and his family were instrumental in helping start this community and were responsible for many of its early successes including developing the schools and businesses within the community as well as expanding into other sections of the state after moving from Kentucky. After years of hard work and dedication from these pioneers who helped create today's Bellefontain Neighbors Community Church (BNC), BNC has grown into one of the most successful churches in central Missouri - serving more than 17 thousand attendees annually since its establishment in 1984! Today's BNC congregation features some truly amazing individuals who have dedicated themselves to ministry on local levels across much of central MO!
