Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri was a small town in the Ozarks of central Missouri when it became one of the first communities to adopt handgun safety laws. In 1976, Bellefontaine Neighbors passed an ordinance that required residents to keep their handguns unloaded and stored in a locked container at all times. The law remains in effect today. Bellefontaine's handgun safety ordinance is significant because it was one of the earliest gun control laws in the United States. The law was designed to prevent young people from being hurt or killed by firearms. It also helped reduce violence in Bellefontaine and other similar communities across America. Today, gun safety is a top priority for many Bellefontaine Neighbors residents. Dozens of citizens have fought for years to make sure that our community remains safe and healthy for everyone, including those who own firearms. Bellefontaine Neighbors is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. The Bellefontaine name comes from a stream that flows through the community. Bellefontaine was platted in 1857 and named for Belle Isle, which is located in Ottawa County, Illinois. The first post office in Bellefontaine was established on October 21, 1857. It was renamed to Bellefontaine in 1870 after Mrs. A.W. Beecham of New York City donated land to the town for a school and center of commerce. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 439 people, 158 households, and 113 families residing in the town. The population density was 10 people per square mile (4/km²). There were 176 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White alone, 1% African American, 0% Native American, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3% of the population. There are 158 households out of which 38% have children under the age of 18 living with them,[1] 60% are married couples living together, 11% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21% are non-families.[2] In

In the late 1800s, an invention called a “bullet-proof clothing” was developed which allowed for individuals to wear armour around their bodies in order to reduce the risk of hitting themselves withrapnel from rifle bullets. Bullet-proof clothing became increasingly popular throughout the 20th century as it helped increase safety for both shooters and bystanders. One of the earliest examples of shooting protection devices was a type of bullet-proof vest known as an “armour belt”. Armour belts were designed specifically for use by snipers and fighter pilots in World War I, but they soon became popular among other gun owners too. In 1937, Congress passed The National Firearms Act which made it illegal to possess any handgun that didn’t have a serial number or certificate of registration. This effectively stopped the production of handguns that couldn’t be registered with government officials. Throughout much of the 20th century, there was little innovation in shooting protection technology aside from improving ballistic shield design and making improvements to overall safety features. However, in recent decades there has been an increasing trend towards developing new technologies that help improve shooter safety while also reducing collateral damage caused by gunfire. One example is called “fire resistant armor” which is designed to protect someone from getting shot while wearing their armor in case shots hit them instead! Bellefontaine Neighbors is a small town in Clarke County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Bellefontaine Neighbors was founded in 1853 by French Canadians who had moved to the area from Quebec City. The community's name comes from the Bellefeuille Creek which flows through it. Bellefontaine Neighbors is located along U.S. Route 63 east of Springfield and west of St Charles. It is bordered by the towns of Ottawa on the north, Calhoun on the south, and Independence to the east. The community has a central square which contains a courthouse, municipal building and two schools. There are also several smaller stores and restaurants in the town center. Nearby are several churches including Our Lady of Lourdes Church which was built in 1896 and replaced an earlier church that burned down in 1881; Saint John’s Episcopal Church built in 1865; First Baptist Church (built 1913); Methodist Churches (both former Congregationalist chapels) as well as Chapin Elementary School (opened 1924), Bellefontaine Middle School (opened 1955), Belmont High School (opened 1969), Kirkpatrick Middle School (opened 2006) and Highlandview Intermediate School ( opened 1964). Bellefontaine Neighbors is home to one of only two surviving sets of Hellenistic pottery artifacts from North America dating back to c 300 BC-AD 100 AD found intact outside Canada: The Potter's Field Collection at McMaster University in Toronto; these artifacts were discovered during excavations at Bellefontaine when workmen struck upon an ancient farmstead near present day Ottawa, Ontario The other set of Hellenistic pottery artifacts recovered from BellefontaineNeighbors is believed to be located at nearby Harper College where it has been curated by scholars since its discovery more than 40 years ago Bellefontane Neighborhoods was platted on April 4th 1853 by Jules de Soto with lots numbered 1-9 within a radius around what would become Bellefeuille Creek . On July 17th 1860 lot 10 became part of new township called Indian Territory . On November 2nd 1862 lot 21 became part of this township . On January 12th 1865 lot 7 within Indian Territory became part of new township called Bellevue Heights On February 9th 1870 lot 3 within Bellevue Heights became partof this township renamed Platteville Township after General James H P Platte who donated land for it
