Wildwood, Mo., is a small town located in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. In 1907, Wildwood was named for John Wesley Wildwood, an early settler and one of the first members of the Methodist Church in that area. In 1881, Charles Sennett opened a farm on what is now State Route 224 west of town. The farm became known as Sennett's Farm after Mr. Sennett's son-in-law began to farmed there in 1903. The name changed again in 1922 when David Noyes purchased the farm from J.C. Beavers and kept it until his death in 1984. The post office was established at Wildwood on Decatur Road in 1907; it closedtown status on Feb 14, 1930 because of its close proximity to St Louis (then called Jefferson City). According to the United States Census Bureau, Wildwood has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,521 people, 514 households, and 383 families residing in the town. The population density was 102 people per square mile (39/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 60 per square mile (24/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 90% White American and 10% African American; 2% Native American and 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 3% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 8%.

By 1860, however, Wildwood had fallen behind other towns in Clay County in terms of economic development and By 1870 its population had shrunk to just 279 residents. However, during the late 19th century and into the early 20th centuryWildwood began to experience growth as an agricultural center due to its location on Route 66 connecting Springfield with Kansas City and St Louis. In 1925 local businessmen formed the "Wildwoods Improvement Company" which purchased 500 acres (2 km²) of land east of town for $10 per acre (3% of its total area). By 1930 Wildwood had grown to 1,500 residents with three churches and over 50 businesses including nine cotton plantations operated by local farmers. During World War II many military families lived in Wildwood until they moved out after the war ended; some remain living there today as retirees or Visitors from surrounding communities such as Springfield or Branson who nostalgically remember their time living near West Point Army Ammunition Plant or Richland Air Force Base
