Butte Silver Bow is a small city in Butte County, Montana, United States. The population was 561 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Butte County. The community was founded by silver miners in 1876 and named after Englewood, Colorado, where many of the early silver mining operations took place. The first post office at Butte Silver Bow was established on July 6, 1876. At that time there were only a few residents in town. By 1880 the population had grown to over 100 people and then grew rapidly during the late 19th century as silver prices soared due to improved transportation methods and new discoveries in Nevada and other parts of the Western US. During World War I butted up against federal prohibitionist efforts which caused some tension between local citizens and government officials; however, no violence occurred. However, following the war most businesses closed down due to high costs associated with postwar reconstruction (labor expenses alone exceeded $2 million). Many of these businesses reopened when prohibition was repealed in 1933. In 1903 Butte Silver Bow became a suffrage town because all male citizens were given voting rights regardless of race or color according to then-state law (the state gained its current form following several modifications made during Reconstruction). In 1912 women also got their own municipal building constructed north of downtown; this structure still stands today and is used as an administrative office for local government services including housing development initiatives within Butte County which are currently managed by City Hall through Mayor Donny Youngbloods Office (since 2018) Butte Silver Bow experienced rapid growth from about 1925 until about 1955 when it began to decline due primarily to social changes brought on by scientific advances like antibiotics; however even after reaching its peak population in 1950 it has continued slowly declining since then (-1% per decade from 1930-2010). Economic factors such as increased tourism have helped preserve recent trends but Nonetheless overall steady decline continues unabated despite various efforts at redevelopment over recent years
