The name "Bellevue" was chosen because it sounded like an English word meaning "beautiful place." Bellevue quickly became a beautiful small town with many fine residences and businesses. In 1916 the city limits were extended to include what are now parts of Bellevue Township and Park City Township. The town had been growing rapidly since its founding and soon boasted several factories, churches, schools, hospitals and other public services that made it one of the most important towns in Logan County. In 1940 Bellevue voted to become an independent city under the new Nebraska City Acts which allowed cities to exist without county approval if they had a population over 10,000 people (which BellevUE did). With this decision came intensified development which has continued ever since; today's Bellevue boasts more than 20 downtown businesses including many top-notch restaurants and nightlife venues as well as two large parks - both named after world leaders - King George III Park on Main Street and Lincoln Park on 11th Street NW. The current mayor of Bellevue is Mike Huffman who was elected in November 2014 following a landslide victory over his opponent John Christensen 3/2 majority vote tallying over 77% of all votes cast!

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1 km²), all of it land. The community's namesake comes from nearby Mount Nebo which according to legend contains an egg that can be seen by those who have traveled therefrom—and for which Bellevue is named after one such traveler, Hilda Nevins Benson. As of the census of 2010, there were 709 people residing in BellevUE proper and 576 living in unincorporated areas surrounding it including Dundee Springs and White Sands Lake as well as parts of Kearney and Vermillion Counties

Bellevue was founded in 1868 as a small farming community and has remained a rural community since then. The original Bellevue post office was established in 1868 and operated until it closed in 1924. It reopened in 1925 and continued to serve the community until it closed again in 1969. Bellevue's first mayor was Wm. H. McGee Jr.. In 1984, Bellevue became the first town in Lincoln County to be annexed by Omaha City Council; however, it retains its own government and maintains its own taxes.
