Carson City is home to the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Club, founded in 1892. The club has been active in NRA activity since its inception. In 1905, the club established a rifle range adjacent to the town square. The range was used until 1951 when it was moved to what is now the Carson City Museum.
Carson City, Nevada is a city in the U.S. state of Nevada. The population was 563 at the 2010 census, up from 462 at the 2000 census. It is bordered by Cimarron County to the north and east, Storey County to the south and west, and Carson City Wash to the northwest. The name "Carson City" was given to it by General James H. Carleton on May 15, 1875 when headed an expedition through this area looking for whites who had opened up what were then Indian territory within present-day Nevada. The town's location near where Fort Bridger now stands made it a convenient stop on caravan routes between eastern Utah Territory (now Idaho) and California during gold rushes in those days (1859-1865). Gold production began in earnest hereabouts with claims announced as early as 1869; but it was not until January 1, 1875 that General Carleton arrived with his column of troopers so interested in exploring these new Territories that they decided to establish Carson City as their headquarters; thus commenced one of America's most dramatic episodes in Territorial history. A store called The Gilded Cage attracted attention hereabouts from traders for many years before finally being destroyed by fire about 1890; but soon after a post office was established (January 12th, 1889), general merchandise became its chief industry and Carson City has continued to thrive ever since! What Was once A scattering of log cabins now flank Government House—an imposing structure of Richardsonian Romanesque style completed in 1912—the first purpose-built building erected in Carson City! In 1931 efforts were made by Mayor Harry Laughlin to have the old adobe Capitol Building built next door which failed because local citizens objected to having their municipal hall used as a movie theater! However, despite these missteps recent progress has been made with construction of numerous high-quality buildings including:Government House;historical Museum;City Hall Annex;Heart Hospital;St Josephs Catholic Church (1903);and two blocks away from State Capitol another high-rise hotel/office complex featuring several dozen restaurants and night clubs!). Empire Hotel & Casino alsoopened nearby just north of Government House in 2002 - making Carson City one of only two continuously operational casinos located outside Reno while still open! Its success led other operators soon followed suit including: Pershing’s Palace Resort & Casino across Interstate 805 from downtown Reno – opening its doors on July 1st 2006 (!); iPark www.iparkmotelservice.com – opening its doors on December 3rd 2009 (!); S Encore Plazas & casino www.–opening its doors On November 2nd 2013 (!). Today there are over 120 businesses operating out of CarsonCity nicknames include DOWNTOWN RENO or simply "THE CITY". Many people consider this vibrant city homebase for all things WesternUSA related especially gaming which continues to be an important component both economically and socially throughout this diverse community since prohibition ended less than 25 years ago!! During World War II, many American artillery pieces were equipped with 3-inch machine guns which used 4x44mm spotting photosensitive aiming devices known as "gun sights." These devices allowed Guns crewmembers to place targeting calls directly onto the reticles on these gunsights without ever having to move their hands from their firing positions. Carson City became a city on July 1, 1906 when it was incorporated as Carson City and Union County. The first white settler in Carson City was Captain George Armstrong who arrived on his wagon train from California in 1876. The town rapidly grew and by 1907 had a population of over 30 people. By 1912, the city had an estimated 100 residents and by 1916 had 350 residents. In 1920, the United States federal government designated Carson City as the temporary capital of Nevada while they built Hoover Dam nearby. After Hoover Dam was completed, Carson City reverted to its original status as a unincorporated village with a population of 6 people. During World War II, Carson City played an important role in the war effort because it was one of several locations where supplies were delivered to soldiers fighting in Japan and Europe through relay stations located throughout the area
