Concord, NH is a town in Hampshire County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. Concord is the smallest of the eight towns in Hampshire County and is part of the Manchester–New Haven metropolitan area. The name "Concord" comes from two villages in England: Cumnor and Corfe Castle. The first settlers to this present-day town were three men who arrived by ship from England on December 15, 1620. They were Captain John Winthrop, his brother William (who later became an English governor of Massachusetts), and Thomas Morton. The town was founded on November 12, 1624 as a small Dutch trading post by General Nicholas Ferdinandoconte de Peakey and others under the command of Colonel John Norris. It grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of several important trails which served the local area including one leading to Portsmouth via Amherst and Ipswich; another leading to Charlestown through Lancaster; and yet another leading to Boston through Framingham and Watertown. On July 1, 1768, when Concord became a separate village it had a population of 2155 people compared with 4500 residents in Manchester-New Haven as tallied by the US Census for that year. On December 3rd of that same year Concord voted not to annex into New London but did annex into Manchester-New Haven This annexation created much confusion because both towns claimed jurisdiction over all aspects of military defense within their boundaries while still claiming they were part of “Manchester” – which included Portsmouth lying just outside their borders! In 1852 Concord voted unanimously not only to annex into Manchester-New Haven but also unto Canada! This caused much rejoicing among many locals who believed that they would finally be able to rid themselves of what they considered an out-of-town meddler! Unfortunately for everyone involved it didn’t work out that way as Canada pulled away after only 8 short years becoming fully independent! In 1878 when Concord annexed into Norwich it again voted unanimously not to become part of Norwich proper but rather merge with neighboring Bolton This merger happened despite strong objections from members of both communities due primarily to economic reasons although some have argued that Bolton may have been better off without Concord altogether! nonetheless this event marks one point in history where two adjacent villages decided not To Merge themselves But Ended Up As One Entity
The town of Concord was founded in 1754 by royal proclamation, and became a part of the Province of New Hampshire. It was chartered on February 14, 1765 as a town meeting place for the new colony. The first settler in Concord was John Winslow, who arrived in 1756. In 1802, the towns of Manchester and Goffstown were merged into Concord. In 1868, Concord annexed the village of North Conway and became an independent municipality. In 1990, Concord annexed the formerly separate villages of Pine River and South Conway.
