In 1942, during World War II, Beachwood became one of three locations within New Jersey along with Paterson and Elizabeth that were raided by American forces in what is known as the "Paterson Raid." That raid resulted in the death of at least five people and destruction or damage to more than 20 homes. In 1978, Beachwood Township adopted a resolution memorializing its role in World War II as well as its connection to Newark through Bayonne Avenue which separates their townships.

Beachwood is a town in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. Beachwood was incorporated as a townsite on March 14, 1916, from portions of Monmouth andOcean Counties. It took its name from the beach near where it is located. Beachwood's history goes back to 1670 when William Penn purchased land here for $2 per acre. In 1814, his son James Penn sold 2/5 of this land to John Sweeny for $200. In 1824, George Washington granted an easement to the first post office in Ocean County and Beachwood became Roadtowns number 1 in that year. On October 15th, 1829 President James Ketchum issued an Executive Order creating Sussex Township which included all of what is now Beachwood Borough as well as portions of Monmouth and Ocean Counties In 1906, one hundred years after Covey Street opened up hereabouts to commerce with wagonloads of sandals (and other items) being brought into town by boatload from Jersey Shore beaches for peddlers who then unloaded their wares next door on Main Street), one final change happened that would have a significant impact on our town’s early history: The opening up of the oceanfront bayside township allowed residents within town limits access not only to those nice long sandy beaches but also some less appealing shoreline areas now known as Seaside Heights and Brick Church right off Route 3A southbound between Atlantic Avenue and Bayonne Avenue; what resulted was an influx of people who wanted nothing more than to be within walking distance (or even cars driving past) of all sorts of commercial activities – including tanning salons (the business model then still popular), theaters (a new development at that time!), restaurants (!), beauty parlors (!), drugstores (!), etc., making life much easier for those living close enough to get all they needed without having any far-reaching consequences or inconveniences beyond just easy shopping trips! The pre-war growth rate in Beachwood had been about 2 percent per annum; however by 1940 it had reached 5 percent due largely to World War II veteran resettlement which increased demand for housing after the war ended and then beachside businesses were created along Route 3A looking out over the ocean - providing yet another lure for these former servicemen seeking respite from combat duty while they looked forward – inevitably – both physically and emotionally – to beginning their lives anew in a beautiful place like this In addition to service members returning home there were also many students leaving college returning home during World War II following graduation ceremonies held at Rutgers University across the street at Park Row Naval Station where enlistees disembarked onto Ferryboat No 6 prior their discharge ceremony ); likewise many locals went through military service; some worked in nearby shipsyards while others engaged in fishing or farming while others simply took care of things such as mowing lawns or cleaning houses once school got out each day… although most everyone eventually moved away either because they built homes elsewhere or because jobs came available outside our small community . It wasn’t until 1958 when we did something truly amazing: Our first post office finally reopened after being closed since 1941 due primarily To WW2 relocation restrictions; incidentally this occurred just two miles away from our current site on Boulevard Drive thanks again partially to generous donations by Mrs. Lillian Weisner who resided adjacent on Neptune Avenue In 1961 we added our first store - Beacheside Bazaar which later evolved into today’s JCPenney doing very well indeed despite plenty OF competition thanks not leastly (but certainly not exclusively) to Interstate 95 traffic running right through downtown during high season ; needless too say these days you can find us conveniently open Monday thru Saturday 9am TO 4pm with extended hours during vacation months . Most recently we saw construction begin along I95 leading directly down Blvd Drive fronting Seal Beach Boulevard with plans eventually call for us becoming “BeachWood Shopping Center” should it ever become economically feasible . Beachwood is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first white people to arrive in Beachwood were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1664. They named the community "Beachwood" after their farm on Long Branch Township's beach. In 1793, John Fenton, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the township committee, donated land to the town forula development and built a small post office there. In 1837, Beachwood became one of eighteen townships within Monmouth County; it has since been divided into three wards (the current name being Beachwood Heights). In 1869–70, voters approved a resolution asking President Ulysses S. Grant to mint coins bearing the image of George Washington on one side and Jefferson on the other side; this led to creation of the U.S. Mint at Philadelphia where Beachwood coins are still legal tender today. On July 15th 1870, James McCrea bought from George Auerbach all that remained of Pemberton's estate in what is now West Egg Harbor Township and donated it to Beachwood as well for villagehood development purposes which began November 1st 1870 with just two homes - both now abandoned - but soon enlarged with additional buildings until becoming what is now known as McCrea Park. On October 7th 1875 – by order of Governor John Wirtz – all male citizens over sixteen years old must enroll at Ocean View School starting September 1st but no later than January 1st each year thereafter or they may be fined $5 per month or have their property confiscated and sold off according to Essex County law during school term hours only while attendance remains unbroken; enrollment continued through May 31st 1886 when due to high numbers enrolling too late or not following directions young men were issued cards instead giving them permission not to attend school As early as 1868 capitalists had begun investing in land hereabouts: William Tilden submitted his offer for 117 acres (46 ha) including present-day East Egg Harbor Townshipline along Delaware River between Factory Point Light Road (now Atlantic Avenue) and White Sands Bayou on December 12th 1865 with plans for him & partner Samuel Morse & others various businesses (& about 400 residents) ashore including tannery/factory/residence etc.; offers were accepted by state legislature 10 days later resulting in legislated township formed from existing portions ot Monmouth county eastBound along Delaware River then northBound via Factory Point Light Road thence westbound via White Sands Bayou . That same day proprietors voted unanimously not To build wharfage suitable for boat traffic only 6 feet deep but lots offered will include wharfage apprx 17x27 yards deep & plenty of space under water 8x10 feet
