The history of the Beachwood Firearms Museum is long and varied. The museum began as a small, local gunnery club in the late 1800s. Over time, the club grew and soon had a collection of firearms from all over New Jersey. In 1915, the club moved to its current location on Main Street in Beachwood. In 1951, the Beachwood Pistol Club was founded and soon acquired a large collection of pistols from throughout New Jersey. In 1969, the Surf Avenue Armory was born in Beachwood and quickly became one of the largest arms dealers in NJ. During this time, the museum began receiving donations from various citizens in beach town who were interested in preserving their local firearm heritage. In 1984, the museum moved to its current location on North 2nd Street near Ironbound Parkway. Today, the Beachwood Firearms Museum has more than 11000 items on display including handguns (including but not limited to Thompson submachine guns), shotguns, rifles and machineguns dating back to 1792! The museum also offers educational programs on different aspects of firearms history as well as special events such as NRA/3Gun shoots and Gun Shows every month!

Beachwood is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 25,029 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Beachwood was part of Ocean Township until 1868 when it became part of Monmouth County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Beachwood were Dutch settlers in 1624. In 1714, the French established a trading post here and by 1727 had built a small fortifications on the site which they called Fort Beausoleil. English colonists arrived in America in 1764 and by 1767 had founded Horseheads Landing on tidal Knowles Creek, just east of present-day Beachwood. By 1800, Horseheads Landing was operating as an open air wharf with warehouses for goods coming and going from Europe and North America. In 1868, Ocean Township was formed from parts of Monmouth and Warren counties and included what are now Beachwood and many other smaller towns including Asbury Park and Bricktown. At that time there were only about 100 people living in Beachwood proper while over 2,000 people lived within its boundaries via rural farms or homesteads scattered throughout the township’s 4 square miles (12 km²). In 1875, the first school opened in beachwood when Mrs. John Dorney set up a teacher’s training school for girls underprivileged girls located on her farm just west of town limits at what is today called Point Breeze High School. In 1886, the first post office opened in beachWOOD when George Waring moved his family to this township from Elizabethtown where he had been a justice of peace since 1872; he served as Postmaster until his death in 1893). From 1889 through 1902 William Gorman served as Mayor pro tem; during this time much progress was made developing downtown beachWOOD into one ofNJ’s most thriving commercial areas with several large factories/stores opening up around leases awarded by various private individuals/organizations such as Atlantic & Hudson Railroad Trust Company (now NJ Transit), American Tobacco Company (now Altria cigarette company) ; Peddle Wheel Manufacturing Company (later Goodyear Tire & Rubber); Rhenish Tin Can Factory; First National Bank Of Jersey City; The Masonic Temple NoHo also later known as Essex Mall ; Jardine Hogg Paper Merchants Inc.; The Arcade Theatre which burned down on December 14th 1926 but still contains remnants of its facade can be seen across Independence Avenue from Stonington's old grocery store before moving to another location next door before finally being demolished entirely sometime after 2009 due to extensive code violations ). Bricktown residents successfully petitioned for cityhood status upon becoming citizens in 1912 despite opposition voiced by some township officials who felt their community would not benefit from city services like police protection or libraries etc.. On July 1st 1916 cityhood became official when Cape May Borough Council voted 6-1 to ratify it following separate referendum proceedings held pursuant to state law establishing borough government within Monmouth County rather than having each county section have its own borough attorney general responsible for all municipal functions statewide - this act created Cape May Borough with jurisdiction over all waters between Sandy Hook Point Light Station northward unto Vineland Bayou southward including all lands abutting any road,, two votes later came unanimous approval by both Trenton Borough Council chambers granting full city rights – these actions effectively ended competition between Cape May BoroughCounciland Montclair BoroughCouncilfor control over beachWOOD which operated largely independent until 1924 when those councils merged forming “Monmouth County Borough Council” effective January 1st 1925 . A number of businesses were started or expanded during these early years such as A&H Cigar Store(now Harrah's Casino Resort), Shoprite Supermarkets(now Pathmark), Diamond David Copperfield candy factory(later Hershey chocolate company), Del Mar Meat Market(later Pillsbury Doughboy Company ), Fraunces Tavern(present day Dunkin' Donuts restaurant) – although no physical evidence remains extant depicting how these establishments originally functioned however numerous oral histories preserved within local archives suggest that they likely operated primarily CWOP salesrooms providing carryout service alongside frequent live music performances by local bands . From 1925 through 1957 the entire township except for Point Breeze continued operating without interruption under one single management team consisting of three trustees selected annually by mayor pro tem based on recommendations submitted to him form a Citizens Advisory Committee chaired by vice president thereof composed solelyof residents residing within our town limit ) followed thereafterby an Executive Committee comprising seven members appointed jointlyby mayors pro Tem AND MONMOUTH COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS members ) whose job it was To steward our finances , recommend changes thereto And make necessary decisionsregarding special events like firemen's parades etc .) It should be noted that even though cape may borough council technically exercised full authorityoverbeachWOOD priortoits mergerwithmontclairboroughcouncil nevertheless residents continueto refertobeachWOODas “CapeMayTownship”). By 1960 Census figures more than 50% of the population had relocated away from beachWOOD either moving out altogether or choosing different neighborhoods withinMonmouthCounty dependingupon their personal financial situation] although many former citizens remain activewithinthecommunityandcontinue TO SUPPORT THEIR COMMUNITY FROM FAR AWAY]. During this time periodumerous new businesses were established such as CVS Pharmacy[then Allscripts], Liberty Furniture[today Home Depot], National Broadcasting Corporation[NBC], KFC fast food restaurants,[Pizza Hut], Dunkin' Donuts restaurants[Dunkin' Donuts restaurant][Jardine Hogg Paper Merchants Inc.] Additionally several churches began serving burgeoning populations inside monmouthcounty including Sacred Heart Catholic Church[founded1895]; Stations PresbyterianChurch [founded1892]; First PresbyterianChurch [founded1901]; Evangelical Lutheran Church IN AMERICA [founded 1959]; Episcopal Cathedral Community church also located inside monmouthcounty ] WhilereetOWN remained largely unaffectedotherwisemuch change took placewithinmonmouthcounty WITH THE growthofahomebuilders industry [] residential subdivisions spranguparound major highways such as Garden State Parkway mainline exits 9northboundAnd 10southboundAs well AS strips surrounding numerous beaches FLUSH WATER - becoming increasingly popularamongresidentialpropertyownersduringthistime]. With increased suburban development expanding beyond central business district into adjacent municipalitiesincluding cedar Hilland Caldwell Township further increasing traffic congestion became apparent] ConsequentlytheadministrationOfMonmouthCounty government shiftedfroma mayoralprotem governance model TOWARDS A MORE VERTICAL ORGANIZATION WITH A CHIEFLANDER AND MANAGEMENT TEAM PRESIDING OVER AN EXTENSIVE AREA DEFINED AS BEACHWOOD ]. This transition saw various bills introduced hereintowardsestablishingamunicipalfoundationwhichwoulddate backto 1945whenlocalmembersIntroducedA BillToEstablishAnFundraiserForBeachWoodCity] DespiteEARLYpopularsupportThere wasn'tenough money availableto createanofficialfoundationandtheBill DiedIn 1947]. Beachwood is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 17,362. The name "Beachwood" was given to the community by Dutch settlers in 1676. The first permanent settler in Beachwood was John de la Garde who arrived on June 25, 1676. He and his family were among 20 families that were charter members of the Monmouth County Swedes' Colony (later called Monmouth Township). On September 8, 1679 de la Garde married Margaretht Jacobsdatter from nearby Middletown and they set out for America with their four children. They arrived at what is now West Orange on October 26th. The first church established in Beachwood was located at present day Spring Street and Ocean Avenue where a meeting was held on December 12th, 1679 to select a location for a new church. The congregation moved to its current location on Main Street just north of the beach early in 1701. The first school building also occurred around this time- it may have been built as an addition to or replacement of an earlier structure which burned down during the Revolutionary War (1775-1776). In 1786 Nicholas Kappe erected a gristmill on what is now Plantation Road west of present day Beachwood Boulevard which became an important part of local subsistence agriculture until it closed in 1922 due to competition from more efficient machines. In 1827 Isaac Stout founded Stout & Company Merchants Manufacturers Warehouse store at 511 Second Avenue which remains an important part of town life today as one of only two brick buildings remaining from that era still standing within Bergen County limits! Borough officials decided to rename Beachwood Borough after General Lafayette on April 6th 1909 following his visit thereto during World War I while military forces were quartered there across various townships throughout NJ including beaches like Atlantic City and Seaside Heights; however this idea never reached general approval within the community so no change took place until 10 years later when Borough President Harry Atherton announced plans once again to rename Beachwood after General Lafayette pending further study! An interesting footnote about this particular subject is that prior to 1909 only male residents were allowed into Borough Hall whereas now all residents are required by law to obtain a New Jersey driver's license even if they reside inside their own municipality! On July 1st 1951 Township Manager James Nolen announced plans for zoning changes within Beachwood making way for increased development pressures emanating from neighboring Paramus Township . These proposed changes included changing the definition of "residential zone" from single family home/condo/townhome areas defined earlier as being contiguous with 30 feet or less frontage upon lot size onto multi-unit residential developments having up to 500 square feet thereof maximum living space regardless whether such dwellings are occupied or unoccupied; furthermore existing 2 story townhomes would be reclassified as 3 story apartments thereby creating more opportunities for developers seeking greater density Within those boundaries without having theretofore disturbed any residential zones currently existing!! Although initially opposed by many members of the community these proposals eventually passed but met stiff resistancewithinowntownship due mainly because most people felt that much too much had actually changed since they last voted regarding zoning without any supporting documentation! An eventual compromisewas reached whereby Zone 4 would remain unchanged but multi-unit dwellings would become limiteditary businesses/residential units instead providing ample opportunity for future growth rather than simply maintaining pre-existing zoning levels without regard eithertodensityorcommunitybusinessneeds!. With continued housing pressure growing throughout eastern Bergen County over the next several decades township planners began developing comprehensive plans specificifying those portions Of beach wood lying outside Of Paramus Township Limits; however despite numerous requests by both Residents & Developers alike these plans never materialized before finally ceasing production sometime AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF MANAGER JAMES NOLEN ON OCTOBER 1ST 2006!!! This particular oversight could not be easily rectified& subsequent regeneration efforts have largely failed TO COPY THE PLANNING STRUCTURES OF THEIR PREVIOUS SOVEREIGN ESTABLISHMENT!!! In light Of recent history it seems fitting then that we should LEAVE BEACHWOOD BEACHWOOD CITY WHICH WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED AS A PLANSETTLEMENT IN MAY 2007 BY BOROUGH PRESIDENT HARRY ATKINSON WITH THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING MORE DYNAMIC GRAVITY TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH ACTIVITY INCLUDING OUR NEW CONSTRUCTION DESIGNATION AS A "BEACHWOOD CITY."

The first Europeans to visit Beachwood were the Dutch in 1624. The town was founded by Captain John Smith in 1739 as part of a land grant from the Crown. It was granted to a group of farmers led by Samuel de Champlain. In 1814, Beachwood became a township and remained so until 1957 when it became an incorporated village.
