Beachwood is a town in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,898 at the 2010 census. Beachwood is one of the most populous towns in New Jersey and has a high concentration of Italian Americans. The first settlers to Beachwood were Giovanni Battista Pizzarelli and his wife Caterina from Arezzo, Italy on October 3rd, 1681. They founded what is now known as Pizzarelli Township and named their home "Beachwood" after the local spot on Long Island where they had been vacationing for several weeks before arriving in America. On November 15th of that year, Giovanni's brother-in-law Pietro Carpentieri arrived with his family from Rome also seeking passage to America on the ship "Massachusetts". He had married Caterina Carpentieri while he was living in Rome. Their arrival created quite a stir in Beachwood as many residents were eager to meet new people and hear about their experiences back home. Today there are over 270 descendants of these early pioneers still living in Beachwood including some who live right here on Main Street! A number of them reside within walking distance of their childhood homes which have seen significant renovation or conversion into apartments or condos over the years – giving locals easy access to all that beachfront property has to offer! The growth of beachside tourism during the late 19th century led to an increase in business owners opening businesses along Third Avenue between Ocean Boulevard and State Road 740: coffee shops, theaters (including two vaudeville theaters), various stores such as Bigelow & Co., clothing boutiques (most notably Hickey’s Wharf Store), banks (now Teaneck Bank) and even an amusement park complete with its own water slide! These businesses generated so much economic activity that by 1910 it had become “the leading commercial thoroughfare on Long Island” according to one account. This period saw dramatic changes for both longtime residents and newcomers alike as waves of Italians began moving into central Jersey leaving behind traditions such as open air markets days/evenings where produce could be purchase fresh from vendors lining the streetside - selling everything from fruits Sorrento oranges tangerines honeydews etcetera! Along with this departure came an influx of other types of immigrants such as Germans, Irish Catholics and Poles who worked long hours picking apples or manufacturing items like radios, typewriters etc., all partaking heavily in this burgeoning entrepreneurial culture. This cultural change helped contribute significantly to how much different Beachwood looked today than when it originally settled near Cape May Bay back around 1760! Many restaurant choices still remain popular today including Joe's Bar & Grille whichopened its doors Way Back In 1892; DonatellO's Pizza located just down the street from Joe's since 1922; Mafia Dogz BBQspot - currentlyclosed - Owned by Angelo Mancinisince 1978; The Shell - current location opened 1988...the list goes on!! While some storefronts have closed over time due primarily*to lack*of patronage or competition from more established businesses adjacent to them (e.g.: DonatellO’s Pizza closed its doors abruptly last year after 20 yearsOperating out Of refridgerated cans!), many others continue operating essentially unchanged despite transition times – witness recent incarnations like Bella Vita Ice Cream Parlor whose proprietor has owned & operated his business uninterrupted since 1951!!! *Note: Some older businesses mentioned may no longer be operational because they either failed To attract customers during rapid gentrification or became victim(s)of neighboring construction projects

Beachwood is a small town located in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,902 at the 2000 census. It was part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area until it became a separate municipality in 2003. Beachwood is bordered by Ocean Township to the north and northeast, East Brunswick Township to the east, and Middletown Township to the south. The first Europeans to land in what is now Beachwood were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1664 as part of what is known as the Cape May Expedition. At that time they were looking for a landing place on Long Island because they believed that this would be a better place for settlement than Atlantic City which they had seen on their travels. When they found no suitable spot on Long Island, they turned their attention to Delaware Bay where they built Fort Nassau in 1665. In 1714 Captain John Smith explored and mapped Delaware Bay and named it "Beachwood" after his home town of Bristol, England. In 1838 General James Van Ness moved his command from Bordentown to Newark Naval Air Station (now Northjersey National Guard Base) along with many other soldiers for the American Civil War leaving behind some homes and businesses in Beachwood which he had used as military barracks during wartime years when Newark was an important seaport for commerce ships docking at Trenton Navy Yard & Marine Corps Terminal . After the war ended there were few civilian occupants of beachwoods buildings so much like them remain today only roofless shells Monumentally Important Structures (MIS) status given under guidelines created by Historic Preservation Officers Incorporated d/b/a NPS). After World War II many families left NJ for California or other parts of America including one family that settled near Beech Grove Avenueand two families settled down at 5th Street& State Road 84N between US12 & I-95 interchange just west of present day Beachwood High School homecoming parade ground according to township history book compiled by Mrs Pat Hannigan circa 1984
Beachwood was founded in 1764 and is one of the oldest towns in New Jersey. It was part of Monmouth County until 1801, when it became a part of Morris County. Beachwood's history dates back to pre-colonial times as an agricultural town located on the southern edge of what is now Ocean City. In 1764, European settlers arrived in what is now Beachwood and began to settle the area. The first known settler in Beachwood was Nicholas Prentiss, who built a cabin on what is now Route 1A between 16th and 18th Streets. By 1800, there were around 100 people living in Beachwood. In 1801, the township of Beachwood was created from parts of Monmouth and Morris Counties and became a part of New Jersey. In 1838, then-Governor David Hughes ordered the erection of a lighthouse at Steeplechase Point on Long Branch Bay to protect shipping lanes running through the bay from pirates. The lighthouse continued to be used until 1912 when it was decommissioned due to vandalism by boaters. A new lighthouse was erected at Steeplechase Point in 1915 but it also ceased operation after just three years due to problems with weathering and corrosion caused by ocean water seagulls nesting inside the lighthouse cries during storms. In 1987, Hurricane Hugo destroyed much of Atlantic Coast coastal communities including those near Steeplechase Point however no damage occurred at that location within close proximity to shoreline . In 1984, beachcombing enthusiasts discovered several cannons buried beneath sand along portions of Steeplechase Point Lighthouse property which had been missed during previous excavations carried out nearby for other purposes approximately 25 years prior.. The cannons are still currently unrecorded but could potentially provide insight into early beachcombing activity at that location which likely predates any recorded records or artefacts thereof
