Beachwood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Beachwood was founded by Dutch colonists in 1676 as Beekman's Ferry Landing on the Delaware River. The name "Beachwood" comes from a word meaning "shoreline of wooded areas." In 1795, when New Jersey became an American state, Beachwood was included within Bloomfield Township and it remained so until its incorporation into Middlesex County in 1828. Middlesex County had been formed from portions of Essex and Monmouth counties on January 1, 1804. At first, only residents of those townships were allowed to vote in county elections; but soon all residents of Middlesex County were entitled to vote. As township boundaries changed over time, Beachwood also grew up around it - first including parts of Caldwell and North Brunswick townships before eventually becoming its own municipality in 1903. In 1908 beach front property along Long Branch Avenue between what is now Third Street and Fourth Street was donated to the town by Drury & Sons soap manufacturers for use as a public beachhead which remains today one of the most popular beaches in New Jersey with waves crashing against shorelines that extend for several hundred feet out into open water beyond Captain John Cook Park (now called Seaside Park). -In 1912 Beach Wood Brewery opened with beers made from local grains such as barley and rye then transitioning to wine products after Prohibition ended

When World War I began and beaches were closed due to military activity worldwide, many beachcombers turned to fishing instead of tourism as their main source of income. However, during World War II many businesses changed hands and Beachwood's economy went into decline because so much manufacturing took place upstream in nearby Camden County during wartime aluminum production boom times. Beachwood was originally a small, rural community in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The community developed around the beach and lighthouse at Cove Point. In 1847, the town was renamed Beachwood after its location on the Islip Peninsula. In 1892, Beachwood reached its peak population with over 1,500 residents. However, following a decrease in population due to World War II and changes in the economy, Beachwood lost its status as a major American tourist destination by the late 1960s. Today, Beachwood is a small farming community with about 100 residents.
