Ammunition history in Lodi, New Jersey starts with the early days of firearms. In 1798, James Wolkner and his brother John founded a small shop on Main Street in what is now known as Lodi. They started manufacturing cannons and shot for the local militia. Ammunition demand was high during the Revolutionary War, so they began to produce ammunition specifically for the war. In 1805, Samuel Morse established a business in Lodi that manufactured artillery rounds and other munitions. Over time, Morse's company became one of the largest manufacturers of ammunition in America. The company built a large factory at 5th and Market Streets in downtown Lodi. In 1863, Samuel Morse passed away and his son Harlan inherited the business. At Harlan Morse's death in 1876, ownership of the company passed to his son George Folsom Jr.. The business continued to grow until it merged with Remington Arms Company in 1903. George Folsom Jr.'s sons Rudolph and Burton bought out their father's shares in 1903 and continued manufacture of ammunition under their own banner until 1959 when Remington Arms Company merged with Winchester Corporation to form Winchester-Winchester Incorporated (Winchester). From 1957-1983, Winchester Ammunition was headquartered outside of Hartford, Connecticut until it moved back inside of Hartford due to relocations within North America caused by industry consolidation throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Under Winchesters management (until 1984), Winchester Ammunition produced some very popular cartridges such as Leverkusen ballistics testing rounds which were used for ballistic tests on rifles across many industries including law enforcement use; these rounds are still being produced today by companies such as Ballistix Tactical Solutions LLC pursuant to contracts entered into by private parties utilizing Leverkusen projectiles purchased from Winchester Ammunition since 1985 through 2019 inclusive.

Its name comes from Lodi Township in 1837 and from Lodi House which was built by refugees from Italy in 1798. The village of Lodi was formed on May 9, 1852 when it was annexed by the towns of Bordentown and Medford. On July 1, 1957, the villages of Lodi and White Sands were merged into the new city of Trenton. Lodi is a major bedroom community for Trenton with over 20,000 residents. It is also home to the State University of New Jersey (SUNY) Hobbs Campus as well as many businesses and professional organizations including the Trenton Chamber of Commerce and the Trenton Police Department's SWAT Teamrons Unit.

It became an important center for grain production and shipping, as well as for shipbuilding. Lodi also became a popular stop for tourists visiting the nearby Statue of Liberty and other famous landmarks. In 1951, Lodi was merged with neighboring Paramus to form Paramus Township.
