One account claims that this wagon road served as a route for outlaws who used it to escape law enforcement efforts during the Santa Fe Trail era. A later version reports that this wagon road helped supply gold miners with necessary goods during their diggings for gold near San Miguel de Allende in southern New Mexico Territory; today's Via La Plata State Route 67 parallels it historically. In 1886, Frederick Winslow Taylor donated land between current day south side of Interstate 10 (old US 93) and north side where US 87 crosses I-10; he hoped that this would create a commercial center along I-10 but no such development occurred. Today part of this donation still remains undeveloped . One early resident reported: "We had no water or place to lay our heads so we were obliged to go out into nature." by 1895 there were only one or two homes left standing on what is now Main Street after years of growth due to silvermining activity which led to increased demand for water supplies throughout much of northwestern New Mexico Territory including parts now within Carlsadadominational UCC parish boundaries.–Today part of Main Street runs parallel to I-10 just north of mile marker 191st on NM Highway 64
