The BHP holsters allowed pistols to be carried with both hands while still having use of either hand; this innovation made it possible for law enforcement officers to fight crime utilizing handguns while being able to protect themselves from potential assailants with their other arm
The modern day handgun is a result of European firearms developments in the 16th century. handguns were first developed in Spain and Portugal where the practice of gunpowder ignition by fire made firearms possible. In 1585, Portugueseman Vicente Filho invented a percussion cap gun which allowed for wider-spread gunfire than had been possible with earlier firearms. In 1597, Spanishman Alonso de Molina also Inventioned a firearm that used this new technology- the mace. These two inventions led to further development of handguns and rifle ammunition over the next few centuries.
Rio Rancho was founded in 1847 by José Joaquín Córdoba and his wife Maria Clara. The community grew quickly, and within 10 years it had a school, post office, and store. In 1865, the first cattle ranch in Rio Rancho was established. Today, Rio Rancho is a small town located in southeastern New Mexico that is home to many of its historical landmarks. The town's namesake comes from José Joaquin Córdoba's visit to the area in 1845. When he arrived in New Mexico, he took with him two horses and six mules. Unknown to him at the time, this would be the first of many visits that Córdoba would make over the next few years as part of his explorations of new territory in Southwest America. In 1847, José Joaquín Córdoba founded Rio Rancho on what is now known as East Mesa Street near present day Interstate 25 south of Pecos City. At that time much of what exists today within Rio Rancho boundaries were Native American land grants given to individual ranchers or groups of ranchers under Spanish rule. Over time much development happened within the community due to its strategic location between Santa Fe and Pecos City on both sides of I-25. This included numerous construction projects such as a school (1849), post office (1862), general store (1863), and mill (1865). The town also saw growth in manufacturing due to its proximity to Santa Fe and Pecos City for processing goods brought into the region by railroads. This included producing cheese (1907), flour (1910-1911), oilseed crops (1920-1927), cotton(1923-1945), potatoes(1945-1991)), cornmeal(1982-1993) – all while maintaining close ties with their respective local communities. Today there are several traditional businesses still operating within Rio Rancho including groceries stores like Supervalu/Albertsons along I-25; restaurants like Baja Mexican Grill & Cantina along US 66; support services for various industries such as mechanics shops; Realtors; health care providers; libraries;and more!
