The history of binoculars in Albany, New York goes back to the mid 1800s. The first proper binoculars were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in France. They were used for military purposes and were very useful for spotting movement in the darkness. By 1892, there were at least six businesses in Albany that produced and sold binoculars. These businesses included J.M. Brown & Sons Opticians on Broadway, Ayer’s Camera and Telescope on State Street, Biltmore Camera and Optics on Washington Avenue, and Althouse Eye Glasses on Elmira Street. In 1907, a company called Binocula was founded by George Fenton with the help of his brother-in-law John Schieffer Jr.. This company made three types of binoculars: 1) a refractor telescope type; 2) an advanced design which combined a lens with a prism; 3) an early “cameraphone” type which consisted of two lenses connected by an armature system. In 1913, Fenton merged his companies with those of Edward Laughlin to form American Optical Company (AOC). At AOC, research was done into new optical technology including variable focus systems and long focal length optics products. In 1916, AOC introduced its famous "Eagle" monochrome binocular model which became one of the most popular consumer devices ever manufactured! The "Eagle" models continued to be produced until 1968 when they were replaced by new versions called the "Owl" series! From 1927 through 1969, AOC also manufactured a line of high quality eyeglasses known as the "American Eagle." During this time period, Albany's reputation as a center for optical production helped contribute to its growth as an industry center during that era!

Albany is a city in New York State, United States. The population was 579,844 at the 2010 census. Albany is the largest city in the Finger Lakes region and is the county seat of Albany County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Albany were French traders and missionaries in 1614, who named it "Aigouan" after Aiguille de la Forêt, one of their number. In 1724, Albany became a part of Great Britain when England annexed New York during the Seven Years' War. The British renamed it Kingston upon Hull after their naval base on Lake Ontario at that time. In 1801, New Yorkers founded a town on land that had been part of Kingston upon Hull since 1724 known as Troy; this town was eventually merged into Albany as well. In 1825, another new settlement was established by Yankees east of Troy called Utica; this community ultimately became Troy too. Fort George was built near present-day Syracuse to defend against possible attack from Onondaga County by Native Americans during the Battle of Saratoga in 1813; however, no Indian attacks occurred and Fort George served as an ceremonial center for many years thereafter. During Reconstruction following the American Civil War (1861–1865), Albany played an important role in efforts to rebuild America's post-war South following its fall from power through military occupation and white terrorism culminating with General Andrew Johnson's Emancipation Proclamation four years later which ended slavery throughout most of America Ulysses S Grant issued his proclamation ending Reconstruction on January 1st 1865 effective February 14th 1865 making all former Confederate states unincorporated territories within Union lines subject to Clinton County laws governing property rights without any representation or voting privileges for citizens thereof inferior to men born free therein: these ceased operations about one year later when statehood became an issue within the Republican Party due largely to NY congressional incumbents being unable not only refuse service but also accept bribes from carpetbaggers seeking patronage
