The first Europeans to visit Babylon were French traders who landed there in 1614 as part of their search for fur traders traveling through that area. The Dutch also explored and mapped the area during this time but no permanent settlements were established until after America gained independence from Great Britain in 1776. In 1792, John Montgomery arrived in what is now Babylon to open a drugs store and post office here. He named his store "Montgomery's Store" because he had recently acquired land adjacent to where the current building stands today on Main Street (now Clinton Avenue). In 1801-02 following an outbreak of yellow fever pandemic which swept through much of North America at that time – many farmers decided to move their operations away from urban areas into rural areas seeking relief from illness and possible death from exposure or infection; consequently some small villages such as Batavia consolidated into larger towns such as Albany during this time period due to similar circumstances prevailing across much of North America at that time: rapidly growing new industrial centers around major rivers fed by agricultural production; consolidation resulting from increased competition for limited resources among numerous village/towns/cities; these trends continuing well into the 20th century when major metropolitan regions emerged). On October 3rd 1836 while still living inside Seneca County limits - then just east of Rome - Lieutnant William Hopper observed "a most wonderful sight": two great pyramids [of unknown purpose] standing high upon rising ground near where Genesee River flows southward near modern day Rome". This natural wonder soon led toHopper’s nickname “the Egyptologist” because he knew so much about ancient Egyptian architecture and remains discovered throughout his long career exploring sites throughout parts of Upstate New York including present day Rome (then just south-east corner of Seneca Lake). A few years later another group came across what appear[ed]to be three colossal statues or heads... [These objects], although not realized at first as idols until investigations revealed they actually represented three human beings plastered together along one side forming an impressive facade... appeared only after local preacher Abraham Lincoln saw them while preaching outside Seneca Falls Methodist Church located on Greenway Avenue today (now Broadway) opposite modern day Dunkin' Donuts restaurant back then known simply as “Lincoln Park”! These realizations allowed Buffalo Philadelphian Augustus Saint Gaudens - who was living nearby in Buffalo –to design two large marble busts depicting Senators Daniel Webster (left) & Richard Mott (right), both men noted leaders & patriots during our nation's early days right before their deaths amidst partisan political wrangling over slavery issue back then! These busts are currently on display inside South American Market Hall located next door inside former Lincolns Hotel once occupied by Empire State Building prior to its demolition beginning in late 1990's!! continued ....
