Lancaster, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 12,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Lancaster was by the Dutch in 1614 and it was named "Dalmatia". German settlers began arriving in the area during the 17th century, and it became part of Westchester County. A post office called Lancaster was established in 1784, and remained in operation until 1860. In 1825, a group of farmers led by Nathan Bedford Forrest founded what would become Panola County with land that they had bought from the Lenape people in Ohio. The county seat was initially located at Danville but changed to Lancaster on December 1st, 1829. In 1836, Lancaster voted to secede from Panola County and become its own independent municipality. In 1886, a group of farmers led by George Wills attempted to create a new township based on their land holdings around present-day Lancaster center but were met with resistance from some residents who saw this as an encroachment on their rights as landowners. A referendumwas held two years later to determine whether or not the town should be formed but failed to receive enough votes to be put into effect. After several failed attempts over ensuing years (including one spearheaded by Mayor Philip Ladd), voters finally approved incorporation of Lancaster on November 15th, 1903 following a campaign chaired by local historian John Hoferbeinworth Sr.. At that time there were only about 2 dozen permanent residents living within its boundaries; today there are more than 30 thousand people residing within its limits alone! The first buildings were erected during 1903 and 1904 - many of them still standing including the original courthouse which served as both Municipal Court House and Jail until 1951 when it was replaced by the current building complex which also includes a firehouse andanger management wing known locally as "the old red barn". The town manager's house/apartment complex situated adjacent to Main Street has been designated as an official historical site since 1999... In 2005 plans for Phase II of redevelopment project called “Startup” received approval from Town Council after annexation of neighboring communities Springettsbury Township (northwest) & Goshen Township (southwest). This phase will see development totaling over 100 acres with upwind energy production facilities on 8 parcels totaling .125 acre each which will provide jobs for upwind growers/manufacturers while providing green space for community use

In 1861, when Lancastrian boundaries were redrawn after statehood within New York, one corner became part of what is now Uniontown while another corner became part of Moon Township; henceforth known as Moon Township (northwest side). However, much to traders' dismay by this move there never seemed to be an increase in trade or population from these two short-lived segments within township boundaries; however they did manage to maintain land lines between themselves until 1940 when their line broke down along with other townships within Erie County due to annexation by Buffalo as part of that city's growing suburbs/cities belt trend throughout much rural America during that period (see also: Unincorporated Areas)). As with most larger communities such as this one over time there continue to be some interesting changes taking place not just inside but outside those bounds too - currently seeing excitement around plans for a proposed mixedUse development adjacent to Main Street called "The Village" - incorporating aspects from both existing villages/townships although still TBD regarding location etc., yet still views viewable from almost all corners or properties facing Main Street!

Lancaster was first settled in 1776 by the Potters family. They were among the earliest settlers in what is now Lancaster County. The town was named for General George Washington, who fought in the Revolution. The settlement grew quickly, and in 1807 it became a city with its own government. In 1850, Lancaster became part of Pennsylvania and was renamed Philadelphia.
