Scope mounts have been in use for over a century, and Oneida, New York is one of the earliest communities to adopt them. The first scope mounts were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and were used on his rifles in 1792. Over time, other manufacturers began to producescope mounts and theselater became known as scope cages or scope brackets. In 1876, the company Scopes & Telescopes was founded in Oneida by Reverend Augustus B. Simonsen and this company produced two types of scope cages: one for single-shot rifles and the other for repeating firearms. This company also produced the first telescopic rifle sight, which was designed by Reverend Simonsen himself. From 1876 until 1934,screws were used to attach scopes to rifles; however, from 1934 until today screws are no longer used due to their potential failure in high winds or during accidental disassembly/removal of optics from firearms. In 1932, Scopes & Telescopes merged with Eider Optics Company Inc., which had been formed earlier that year by Dr. Julius Eider and Mr. Harry Semonowitz both associated with Weiser microscope factory in Oberlin, Ohio (now Orkin). Dr Julius Eider served as President of Scopes & Telescopes while Harry Semonowitz served as Vice President and General Manager of Eider Optics Company Inc.. With this merger came new production goals such as better quality control and economies of scale; however problems soon arose because there was little coordination between the two companies regarding marketing activities or product development programs. In 1941, following World War II service member shortages led to a surge in demand forScope mount products; however prices began skyrocketing along with manufacturing efficiency problems that persisted into the early 1950s when production cottage declined due to increasing competition from foreign rivals Asahi Optical Co., Ltd., JSC (a Japanese firm), Nikon Co., Ltd., Luxottica Camera AG (a Swiss firm), Bergamo Radio Corp.(an Italian firm)and others during this period when Scope mount prices continuedto escalate without corresponding drop in quality or durability

The town was founded in 1814 by General George Washington and his wife Martha as a hunting and fishing resort on the east bank of the Chenango River. The name Oneida comes from an Iroquois word meaning "place where there is water" or "a place with fertile soil." The first settler, John Morse, arrived in 1825. By 1830, Oneida had a school and four churches. In 1832, President Andrew Jackson ordered all Native American nations to sign a treaty promising not to attack each other anymore. As part of this treaty, Oneida became part of what is now Erie County. In 1840, Oneida had 1 store and 10 households. In 1865-1866, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Unionists burned down several homes in Oneida for supporting the Confederacy. This event is known as the Battle of Red Bank Road . Afterward, many residents fled south into Pennsylvania because they thought war would never end and their property would be safe again. However, hostilities continued until 1865 when both sides signed another peace agreement called Fort Wagner Treaty which ended all hostilities between them

Onondaga County was created on December 3, 1795 from the eastern portion of Cayuga County. Onondaga is also the name of one of the five United States counties that were part of New York State until 1861. The area now comprising Onondaga and portions of neighboring Whitewater and Syracuse counties was first settled by the Lenape Native Americans in the early 1600s. In 1814, Onondaga County was named for General John Atchison, who had led an unsuccessful effort to purchase land from the Purchase Land Company. In 1828, settlers began moving into what would become Onondaga County from other parts of New York State. Oneida Lake was formed in 1829 and became a popular spot for anglers and boaters. The county seat initially resides at Oneida Falls but has since been moved several times. The opening of Eastern Railroad in 1840 made it possible for farmers to sell goods directly to customers in New York City rather than through merchants or wagon trains travelling overland across country. This development led to a significant increase in agricultural production and a growth in population throughout Onondaga County. During World War II, considerable efforts were made by the government to produce munitions within onetime enemy territory; these operations often involved burning villages or burying civilians beneath tons of explosives which caused severe damage to infrastructure and destroyed homes and businesses along with numerous human lives. As a result, much destruction took place during this time period as well as many casualties among both local residents and military personnel whose work required them near areas subject to such devastation. The war left a significant imprint on Onondaga County culture which continues today; many cultural artifacts from that time have been preserved or used as tools for research into issues related thereto such as history, social dynamics, etc...
