The history of firearm hats in Goldsboro, North Carolina dates back to the early 1800s. At that time, the area was a crucial military stronghold and many people saw firearms as an important part of that defense. As a result, gun enthusiasts and hat manufacturers alike produced Hats for the Armed Forces throughout the years. In 1836, Major General John C. Breckinridge founded Fort Bragg in Goldsboro and began to arm his troops with cannons. The fort was necessary to protect against Indian attacks and also functioned as a training ground for new officers. Consequently, various hatmakers decided to set up shop in nearby towns during this time. One such producer was Mr. Browne who made Firearms Hat models for both the United States Army and Confederate Soldiers during this era. During World War II, Goldsboro became one of the major naval bases in southern North Carolina due to its strategic location at the mouth of rivers on both coasts of America. This led to an increase in demand for Hats from servicemen stationed here. Consequently, many hatmakers located their businesses near Navy Pier where Naval Officers could purchase Hats for their uniforms or use them as part of entertainments such as parades or balls (see Figure 1). In fact, several well-known hatmakers from this era still operate within town limits today including Mr. Browne’s son-in-law Bruce Weeden who runs Big Ben’sHat Shop & Gifts on Main Street near NAS Pier (see Figure 2). Although firearm hats have been produced throughout history, they are most commonly associated with American Military History periods such as World War II or The Civil Rights Movement (See Figures 3A & 3B). During these times – especially when openly carrying firearms is encouraged by law enforcement – Hats become quintessential symbols of patriotic support and community spirit (see Figures 4A & 4B). Indeed, many individuals choose to wear Firearms Hat models during public events because they represent strength through cohesion while displaying patriotism (see Figures 5A & 5B). As a result, Gun Nutz has amassed a collection of Firearms Hat models dating back over 50 years which we will be displaying at our upcoming event “Gun Show Saturday” on April 12th from 10am-4pm at The Armory Ballroom downtown Goldsboro!

In recent years, however, firearms hat has come under attack both from traditionalists who argue that it should be abandoned altogether while others defend it on grounds that it provides considerable protection against gunfire during outdoor activities such as hunting or target shooting. handguns are still one of the best ways to protect yourself if you find yourself at risk for harm by someone with a firearm Some people feel like firearms Hats provide significant protection from gunfire when sports events, target shooting etc., so I would say they have their own justification! However many people dont believe this because handguns still remain one of the best ways to protect yourself if you find yourself at risk for harm by someone with a firearm- even better than any other piece of protective clothing!
The Goldsboro Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. It is thought that the club may have been founded as early as 1887, when a group of men met to discuss gun rights issues. The Goldsboro Rifle and Pistol Club meets monthly to shoot firearms, watch hunting shows, and discuss political issues.

Goldsboro is a town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 6,471 at the 2010 census. Goldsboro is the largest city in Forsyth County and the county seat of Forsyth. Goldsboro is located on the Durham-Forsyth border. It lies about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Raleigh and about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Winston-Salem. Goldsboro was founded in 1785 as a small trading post on an undeveloped tract of land west of present-day Goldsboro Road. The name was changed to Goldsborough in 1801 after gold was discovered there by Captain John Aiken and his party while exploring for coal and other minerals near what is now Rutherfordton. The town's first store opened in 1814, and its first courthouse was built in 1835. The cotton industry became dominant during the early 19th century, and Goldsborough become one of the most important cotton towns within South Carolina. In 1865, when Confederate General Robert Ewell moved his army from upstate North Carolina to try to win back Augusta from Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant, he tried to move through Goldsboro but were stopped by Union forces under General Alfred Pleasonton at Camp Hill on May 12th. At this point control over southeastern South Carolina passed from Confederate hands to Union hands; goldmining continued until 1865 due largely to Confederate efforts rather than Union advances inside South Carolina proper
