In 1836, Goldsboro became the seat of Henry County when it was created from portions of Durham and Wake counties by act of Congress followingthe Wilmington Rebellion against Andrew Johnson's new federal government headed by General Robert Ewell Barnes.– From then until 1959, Goldsboro was part of Wake County.– In 1959, it became part ofHenry County.– Today’s community began developing around Creek Lake in 1865 when Benjamin Harrison built his cotton plantation thereabouts.– By 1880, goldmining had begun operations hereabouts and production continued until 1938; however., World War II interrupted this activity– The economy changed with more manufacturing coming online after World War II and during that time significant investments were made in educational institutions including UNC Greensboro (1948), Duke University (1957), NC State University (1974) and Southern Cross College (1980). Today Goldsborough’s economy revolves largely around its natural resources: coal, oil shale and uranium ore.— The leading employer here since 2000 has been PNC Bank which employs close to 1,000 people—- Local businesses have responded to increased competition by investing in technology such as online banking.— One recent development has been homebuilder Lennar Corporation moving its headquarters from Cary to Goldsbrough for more efficient use of space.— In terms offamily life avg family size 4 & below—- Outdated housing stock combined with stricter zoning laws has caused several families to leave town over the last few years—- However many remain due to strong economic prospects here

Goldsboro, North Carolina is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 14,731 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Buncombe County. Goldsboro was founded in 1793 by General James Wilkinson and named for his estate at Goldsborough, near Raleigh. The first store was located on Factory Streets and became known as the "Grand Old Store". The first post office opened in 1801 and was called "Goldsborough." In 1828, Goldsboro changed its name to "Gadsden" after General George Gadsden, who had commanded Confederate forces during the American Revolution. When Johnston's army retreated from Durham in October 1862 following the Battle of Duke's Mill, gold coins were found abandoned along the line of march. Johnston ordered local merchants to start selling gold coins again to finance his troops' retreat and he also ordered new roads built that allowed easier access torich mines near Apex and Morehead City. By 1863, when Johnston's army reached Spotsylvania Court House south of Richmond Hill in September 1862 after crossing over the Rappahannock River at Fredericksburg Bridge, most of his forces were Ezekial Smith's 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment under command of Lieutenant Colonel William Troup (the unit later became known as 1st Battalion/10th Carolina Infantry). The Union Army under Major General Ulysses S. Grant moved into central Virginia on November 8–9 while Johnston's army continued retreating northeastward across the Rappahannock River towards where it would eventually be destroyed at Appomattox Court House three days later by General Robert E Lee outside Petersburg on April 9 1865 – effectively ending World War II for America west of Mason-Dixon Line. In addition to Goldsboro proper - including part of what is now called University Heights - much or all of downtown Golden Triangle neighborhood now lies within boundaries defined by Interstate 95 eastbound between US-501 and US-27 northbound between US-421/I-95 Business Loop southbound; I-95 splits just past Golden Triangle eastbound near its interchange with I-385 (Exit 245) providing an unpaved buffer against future development adjacent both eastbound I-95 motorways serving as border fences between UNC Asheville campus’ eastern edge located just beyond I-285 exit 244 off ramp onto NC 184 west bound; Chapel Hill campus’ southern edge located just beyond I-385 entrance 248 off ramp onto NC 184 west bound; sits atop 200 acre (81 hectare) Site C coal mine operated by Areva Energy Inc., LLC which has been leased since 2006 from Apollo Coal Co., Inc., an affiliate company wholly owned by Alpha Natural Resources Incorporated www:www:AlphaNaturalResourcesIncorporated/.

During World War II, Goldsboro was one of the few American cities that voluntarily served in the war effort with its citizens working as clerks, drivers, or other support services. After the war, Goldsboro experienced rapid growth and decline during the early 1960s until it regained some stability by 1990. Today, Goldsboro is an important cultural center for southeastern North Carolina with a rich history dating back to over 200 years ago!
