In addition, many Goldsboroughians served in various positions in the war effort such as firefighters, police officers, nurses, soldiers and civilians; some even went on to earn immortality with their service to their countrymen throughout hostilities- such as Sergeant First Class James Moseley who earned his Medal of Honor while serving with Company H1/5th New York Infantry Regiment during World War II; or Corporal Gene Autry who became one of America's most popular entertainers after he won his first major acting award at age 16 while playing " bronco Billy" for three years with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West show touring through Oklahoma
