Kinston is a city in the state of North Carolina, United States. The population was 452 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kinston County and the largest city in Forsyth County. The first settlement in what is now Kinston was made on May 18, 1792 by Scottish missionaries, father and son James and John McConnell. The town started as a small community on the banks of the Yadkin River west of present-day Kinston. In 1827, a group of Scotsmen from Oban built a log fortification known as Fort Loudoun to protect their shipping interests on the river. This fort served until 1831 when it was destroyed by Union troops during the American Civil War. A new fort was built nearby on land donated by local landowners, including Colonel Nathaniel Pritchett. Fort Loudoun became known as Pritchett'sFort after its owner. In 1867, Pritchett donated land to build what would become Gaston College (now Gaston University). The college opened in 1870 and soon became one of North Carolina's leading educational institutions with an enrollment of 1,500 students per year. After World War II, Gaston College grew rapidly into one ofthe most prestigious universities in America with more than 30 faculties and departments covering disciplines such as business administration, law enforcement/legal studies, education sciences/specialties such as psychology and sociology; fine arts; health sciences/specialties such as medical care and food science; health information technology; engineering; architecture; public administration; international relations;; Vanderbilt University had also begun an affiliation program which granted undergraduate degrees to students from other cooperating schools within Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine & Dentistry (now Vanderbilt University Medical Center). By 1970 enrollment had reached 10,000 students annually with over 100 faculties amd departments involved in research or teaching activities across diverse fields including classics & humanities studies (& philosophy), social work (& counseling), biology(& earth science), medicine & dentistry (+neurology), psychiatry(& neurology), law (& criminal justice), consumer affairs (& environmentalism). With rapid growth came problems: limited space for student housing developments&facilities&one main street that could only handle so much traffic++; increasing costs associatedwith facilities renovation&updating while still maintaining high standardsof academic quality.; paucity cf faculty available to teach large numbers ol credit hours.). These constraints led to increased tuition rates3and reductionsin course offerings.(Today Gaston offers over 120 degree programs through its five colleges & Engineering School.) Despite these challenges however, Gaston has continuedto thrive both academically& commercially thanks largely to its outstanding faculty who continueto lead innovative research programs across many different fields;; numerous alumni have gone on to successful careers in both academia& industry;; gastonia has been selected twice as a Top 25 City for Women by "The Daily Telegraph" magazine.; gastonia has been designated a Global city by UNAIDS………………….

Kinston, North Carolina is a town in Dare County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kinston is located on Yadkin River and has a market place known as "The Square." It was founded by General John Bunyan in 1787 as a port for goods travelling down the Yadkin River from Pennsylvania. At first it was called Winston Factory because all the land around it had been granted to Samuel Johnston for his milling operations near Weldon. In 1821, Kinston became an incorporated town with a government and schoolhouse. In 1825 its name reverted to Winston Factory when Johnston's mill failed and he sold his holdings to George Catlett Jr., who renamed it Catlett City after himself. In 1865, two men named James Aiken and Elijah White spent three weeks living among the Native Americans at Lake Noatak before starting their own trading post there. This began what would be known as white settlement in Kinston by Europeans; during this time many other small towns were founded throughout Dare County by Scots-Irish and English settlers looking for land grants or contracts from the Cherokees controversy over Cherokee removal under United States Indian Removal Act of 1830 (see also: American Revolution). White Settlement continued until about 1880 when large plantations began to arrive in central Dare County which caused much of the development that followed in Kinston including new mills and warehouses built along what are now McGee Boulevard and Chapel Street NW., continuing into present day downtown area between those streets and Tryon Avenue NE.. At about this same time some brick building developments were being erected on McGee Boulevard SW., becoming today's First Baptist Church (building still stands), Methodist Episcopal Church (former home of Pritchett High School)], Presbyterian Church (now Seymour Baptist Center)], Nationalist Methodist Episcopal Church»]], later Academy of Science Teachers»]. By 1890 most kinston buildings had been replaced with plantation style architecture but traditionalIQ 'QuarterBACK' houses remain popular along McGee Boulevard SW., adjacent Jonesboro Road SE., east side of Interstate 95 where I-95 crosses US-70th parallel just south of downtown entrance
