Mooresville, North Carolina is a small town located in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The population was 2,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville-Buncombe metropolitan area. Mooresville is one of two towns in Buncombe County that are designated as Historic Districts by the state government. The town was founded in 1811 and named for Captain James Moore, who led an expedition to find new land in 1794. In 1881, The Presbyterian Church purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land within Mooresville limits and built a church on the property. In 1905, a post office was established in Mooresville and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1927. Mooresville has been inhabited by white people since before European settlers arrived hereabouts in what is now Buncombe County about 1794 A.D.? Captain James Moore's Expedition discovered this area which had not been felt by man before because it lay some distance from any habitation or watercourse? What followed were many years of arduous exploration during which time much valuable information was collected about this virgin territory? And when finally they reached their destination they reported finding rich coal seams as well as other valuable minerals? The first permanent settler hereabouts was Mr John Wesley Dobbs who came over horseback with his family from western Tennessee early spring of 1800 A.D.? He erected a log cabin on Pinchy Creek where he continued to reside until his death January 1st 1821 A., when his heirs moved into the present site of MooresVILLE after clearing away all traces of their recent occupancy Hereafter William Fenton took possession under grant from Govt ? This important pioneer gentleman started life anew with scarcely more than tools including himself and accomplished great things both within and without our little community We have difficulty understanding why so few items remain concerning our Founders’ history we should erect a monument honoring them soon! After more than 150 years there are still many artifacts left behind from those early days such as pioneer Methodist services being preached outdoors on LOGS back then! Today’s descendants can visit these services every Sunday morning at 9:00am if they wish through special permission given by Pastor Jerry Bramblett

Moresville was founded in 1792 by Samuel Moore, a Scotchman. The town was named for him and his wife, Mary. It became a center of trade and industry in the late 19th century. In 1907, the town changed its name to Moorestown to honor president George Washington Moore. In 1924, Mooresville became a part of the new Carolina Panthers football team. The team played their first game at Swofford Field in Mooresville on November 11, 1924. The Panthers went on to win the 1927 NFL Championship with a score of 20-7 against the Boston Americans. They repeated as champions in 1928 and 1929 before losing to Philadelphia Eagles in 1930 and 1931 respectively. In 1933, they moved from Charlotte to Raleigh where they played their entire schedule until 1943 when they disbanded due lack of sponsorship. However, after World War II ended there was renewed interest in football in North Carolina and so teams were formed all over again including Mooresville’s own National Football League franchise which began play in 1946 as the Titans (later renamed the Redskins). In 1948, North Carolina Governor James Byrnes appointed Professor Julius Erving as head coach of the Redskins and he led them to their first championship game appearance since 1936 – also against Philadelphia – but lost 34-3 at Franklin Field behind two touchdowns by Carl Ellerbe. After that season’s merger with NFLBoston Red Sox owner Edward Hutton’s Baltimore Colts brought about PCA expansion into other leagues (the American Football League), Erving left Redskins ownership for good But he would not be forgotten: his assistant coach Shannon Sharpe Heckler took over operations under then head coach Joe Gibbs during Super Bowl XXIV playing against New York Giants at RFK Stadium; however no Redskins players ran onto the field dressed as Claudette Colbert characters wearing “Skins Gear” following erving’s death just prior kickoff … heckler brought back Erving’s #6 helmet which had been donated by future Washington Redskins owner Abe Pollin! In the early 1800s, Mooresville was a small farming community located in what is now eastern North Carolina. The town consisted of only a few dozen homes and businesses. In that year, General James Johnston traveled through Mooresville on his way to battle against railroads in Virginia. When he reached the town, he was impressed by its size and importance and decided to stay for several weeks. Johnston's decision led to increased trade between Mooresville and nearby Cherokee Nation settlements and helped spur economic growth in the area. By 1825, Mooresville had acquired an sizable store, some barns and other buildings, as well as a schoolhouse and other facilities. The town also began to build a theater: The first play ever staged in North Carolina took place at the courthouse square inMooresVILLE in 1827. The town's success continued during the 1830s and 1840s when exports fromMooresville included tobacco, rice, flour and cheese.
