On July 1, 1927, Apex became a separate city with its own government while Northern Pines continued to be part of SouthPine until 1958 when it merged with Raleigh-Durham into one metropolitan area under federal jurisdiction called the Raleigh-Durham Combined Statistical Area (CSA). In 1994, land adjacent to Old Hickory Lake were donated by then-Governor Jesse Helms for use as a park that would include trails leading away from downtown Raleigh through rural areas near White Oak Swamp before arriving at Big Ridge Park near Asheville airport where it joins Interstate 20/Nashville Pike within Durham County boundaries north of Charlotte In FY2009–10 $3 million was appropriated from Tourism Winston-Salem Division - General Fund Program - Slavery Museum Restoration & Development Grant Agreement for project reconstruction/updates restoration work at “Stonewall Inn” museum; project description: rehabilitating existing structures including but not limited to interior walls; reopening museum June 2013 As required by law all funds must be expended prior appropriation no later than 6 months following enactment

Southern Pines is one of the few remaining original Scots-Irish settlements in the United States. Today, Southern Pines is a vibrant community with a rich history that celebrates diversity and hospitality. Southern Pines began as an agricultural village on the banks of the Little River. By 1871, however, many of the original residents had moved away to find new opportunities in America. Some of these immigrants had married local women and started families here. Others came specifically for trade or investment opportunities in this growing country. In those early years, Southern Pines was known for its fertile land, clean water supply, and strong Scottish-Irish population. In 1887, Southern Pines became part of Buncombe County when it was created from portions of Burke County and Mitchell County. At that time, Buncombe County was one of the most rural counties in North Carolina due to its lack of infrastructure or natural resources such as coal or timber reserves. However, over time this Rural/Urban distinction has changed little: today Northern Buncombe Countians are largely similar in their economic interests and political ideologies to their southern counterparts (although there are some significant exceptions). The first post office opened at SouthPine on October 16th 1870 by David Hanlon (later Postmaster General for USA). The name "SouthPine" came about because during construction on what would become our current courthouse site workmen accidentally discovered a pine tree standing higher than any other trees nearby - making it difficult to build belowground! The settlement grew rapidly after that; by 1872 there were only 10 inhabitants living within limits set by government surveyors surveying south-central Buncombe County... It wasn't until 1886 when SouthPine got its own school system when both Burke High School (now Chatham) east of downtown Asheville closed due to enrollment growth rates outpacing funding available from trustees... In 1895 Jameson Bros., lumberjacks working along Little River felt they needed someplace safe from competing logging interests so they built their own sawmill just outside town Limits near present day Dutchtown Creek . That mill continued operation into the 1920s but finally stopped operations due to high levels of pollution caused by heavy industry which coincided with increased auto travel across UNC lines much closer then ever before Thank you for your interest!
