In 1828, East Liverpool became the first community in what would become known as Cleveland Township when it was merged with neighboring communities Hixton and Westlake. The merger provided more economic opportunity for residents and helped improve relations between different parts of Cleveland. Over time, other municipalities within Cleveland Township began to merge into East Liverpool until it reached its current form as an independent municipality on July 1, 1920. Today, East Liverpool is home to over 16 thousand residents who are proud of their history and culture which has contributed significantly to their community today. The local economy is based largely on agriculture with some manufacturing activities also present here; however, all aspects of life are open to everyone regardless of socioeconomic background orsectoral interest.
