Franklin, Ohio is home to one of the most famous gun triggers in American history. The trigger that fired the first shots at Lexington and Concord was designed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and manufactured in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte & Company.

On Saturday, November 14, 1895, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office used a .22 caliber revolver to shoot and kill one of its own deputies. The shooting was part of an ongoing feud between deputies and citizens in the small community of Franklin.
Franklin, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Franklin County. The population was 509,898 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-largest city in Ohio and one of its ten largest cities by population. The Franklin metropolitan area had a population of 1,695,145 as of July 2017. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The site where Franklin now stands was once part of an Iroquois village known as Great Lakeshore Village. In 1795, General George Washington appointed Brigadier General James Wilkinson to lead an expedition against the Native Americans in what is now southeastern Ohio. Wilkinson's forces destroyed most of Great Lakeshore Village but were repulsed by force when they reached what is now downtown Franklin on November 8, 1795 – three days after Washington's inauguration as president that day. In 1802, James Kapp bought from the Wyandotski Nation land near present-day downtown Franklin for $4200 – making him one of the first white men to own land in what is now Columbus Township (now Richland Township). On December 12, 1802 he built his first home at 4 Union Square which he named "Kapp Hall". Three years later he erected a log cabin on Oak Street also called "Kapp Hall" which served as his headquarters until1812 when he moved into his current home at 6th and Chestnut Streets called "Grant House". In 1814 Englishman John Edwards became captain general and commander-in-chief United States Forces; during this time period many Europeans moved into central Ohio to take up land grants or purchase Indian lands including John Edwards himself who began building what would become Grant House on East 7th Street near First Avenue in 1816 while still serving under British General Sir Thomas Lawrence as colonel commandant at Fort Clinton (present day Delaware City). After several years John Edwards returned to England where he died in February 1824 before completing his grantees house project which eventually became known as Grant Park today. After America gained independence from Great Britain in 1776 there was much discussion about how best to organize new nationhood with no single center - leading to ideas for townships instead giving settlers more autonomy over their lives and surroundings without relying upon government assistance such as roads, schools etc.. Eventually Columbus Township formed with legislation approved by the legislature on March 14th 1800 from portions taken from Frankfort Township (including present day Akron) after a long backroom debate among representatives from both townships over who should get what rights within their respective boundaries...On July 16TH 1800 David Ritchie purchased 640 acres east side of High Street between Clinton Road and Summit Road for $5 per acre… This area would come to be known simply as Ritchie’s Purchase or “Ritchie’s Forest” because David Ritchie did not name it after himself until AFTER HIS DEATH IN 1828 WHEN HIS children inherited THE ESTATE FROM THEIR father HOWEVER THEY ARE CALLED BY HIM SOONLYFRANKLINSTOWN . . . By 1830 only 3 buildings remain standing on original purchase: Old Court House (later burned down), Samuel Hill House (later razed), & Mrs McClure’s Store/ Post Office / Workshop / Schoolhouse complex located just east side OF HIGH STREET BETWEEN CLINTON ROAD AND SUMMIT ROAD/ NOW KNOWN AS EAST 7TH AVE./ FRANKLINSTOWN ZIP CODE 049999 During this time frame large amounts of development took place including Point State Bank constructed 1870; Genesee County Courthouse constructed 1895; Central Manufacturing Company plant built 1907; American Telephone Company plant built 1916; The American Legion post office constructed 1917; Stroudsburg Steel Works opened 1922…. Holy Cross Episcopal Church established 1928… Finally major construction projects such As The Mayfield shopping mall completed 1955 followed by Interstate 75 being built 1975….. Today Franklin contains some beautiful old architecture including Grant Park having been completely rebuilt following a fire that destroyed most Of It In 1978…. Overall it has seen quite a bit change throughout its history but overall has retained much OF ITS INDUSTRY VALUE FROM LAST CENTURY BACK TO BEFORE AMERICAN INDUSTRIES FIRST OPENED UP HERE

The Native American tribe known as the Miami Indians lived in Franklin for many years before they were forced to leave in 1813 following a series of raids by white settlers. After they left, some members of the tribe moved into Franklins largest property, which is now part of downtown Cleveland. In 1855, Ohio became a state; Franklin became its second capital. In 1870, Franklin incorporated as a city; it later merged with neighboring Scranton to form the city of Cleveland-Marshalltown.
