In 1912, Gahanna incorporated as a town with a population over 20 people. In 1928, Gahanna voters approved an ordinance to allow women to vote without being registered as men and to ordain women deacons within their churches; this ordinance was repealed two years later after pressure from local religious leaders who considered it un-Christianity

Gahanna is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. Gahanna is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati–Urbana metropolitan area. The first European to visit Gahanna was John James Audubon in 1837. In 1851, General William Booth purchased land from David Whitaker and built a cabin on an island in the Scioto River. The town's name originated with General Booth's purchase of land from Samuel French Landing northwest of Gahanna and west of Urbana for $1,000. French Landing had been abandoned when the rapids were created upstream. Englishman Nathaniel Hawthorne settled near present-day Hawkeye Street and named his farm Hawk Hill after Hawk Mountain in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In 1857, George Stephenson founded the Cincinnati & Western Railroad Company and began transporting passengers and goods between Cincinnati and Akron via Gahanna. A select group of citizens subscribed to receive stock in this new company while others bought tickets as they went along to enjoy horseback riding or fishing trips on the river that ran through downtown Gahannanamontsville (now part of Marshalltown). The townsite was platted around this time and named Mount Vernon Heights because it lay atop high hills that overlooked both riverside settlements (the modern-day city limits are located east of Canal Road). In 1865, construction began on the railroad line between Dayton and Cincinnati which would become known as "The Great Northern". This period saw major development within Gahanna with businesses opening up such as Wm Hays cotton gin (1866), J P Morgan cigar factory (1868), Masonic Lodge No 2 (1869), Post Office No 1 (1871) – all now gone but their memories remain through preserved buildings or heritage programs such as Heritage Open House events held annually at various locations throughout Muskingum County highlighting some aspects of Ohio history associated with those businesses! During World War I munitions production increased due to American entry into war against Germany; however, by 1922 much manufacturing had stopped due to union pressures within industry then declining demand for munitions following World War II; however some factories did continue until about 1970 producing products such as radios etc., still produced today by companies like Radio Shack
Gahanna, Ohio was founded on December 12, 1814 by the fur traders John C. Smith and James W. Marshall. The town quickly grew as a result of its role in the Ohio Fur Trail, which connected the Upper Great Lakes to China and other parts of Asia. Gahanna's early growth was helped by its location at a strategic spot on the National Road, which allowed goods and travelers to be brought in from far away. During the Revolutionary War, Gahanna served as a supply depot for General George Washington's army during their march through Ohio. In 1825, Gahanna became the capital of what would become Hamilton County. In 1829, it was renamed after American general Anthony Wayne who had fought in the Battle of Fallen Timbers against Native Americans near Gahanna. The town also gained notoriety for being one of the first places in America to legalize gambling (the first such law in that hemisphere). The Panic of 1893 caused significant social unrest in Gahanna and many residents left for jobs outside of Columbus or Cincinnati during that time period. However, things slowly recovered over time as new businesses began to take shape and job opportunities became available again within commuting distance of Gahannas central business district.
