Grove City, Ohio has a rich history with firearms. The city was founded in 1814 by George Washington and his army as a military outpost on the Flats of Monongahela. It grew quickly, and soon became the center of the Ohio country. In 1828, Grove City established its own rifle shop and pistolsmithing academy. The school still exists today, run by members of the family that founded it. One of the most popular firearm t-shirts in Grove City is "The Rifleman's Bible." The Grove City Rifle and Pistol Club first met in 1892. The club was organized as a fraternal society to promote shooting, hunting, and fishing. In 1903 the club became an NRA affiliate. In 1914 the club changed its name to The Grove City Riflemen’s Association.

Grove City, Ohio is a city in Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1824 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and others as a log Settlement on the Scioto River flats west of present-day Akron. By 1830 it had grown to an estimated population of 10,000 people, when it became a town under state charter. Grove City was named for Joseph Grubb (1778-1845), one of Americana's most early settlers and founder of what would become Cleveland. In 1839 the first Methodist church in America was built there; it remains the largest and oldest Methodist Church in America today. Grove City experienced rapid growth following World War II due to its proximity to military bases and manufacturing plants throughout Northeast Ohio. The post-war boom stopped around 1990 when economic conditions changed and job opportunities disappeared for many residents who lost their jobs in industries such as aluminum production or high technology companies that relocated out of state afterward. However, the revival has started anew with some new businesses opening up in recent years including - among others - an online retailer called Overstock.,[1] a medical center known as MetroHealth Medical Center,[2] and several high-end residential developments such as Arbors Place.[3][4] The history of Grove City begins with General Nathan Bedford Forrest's purchase of 2 acres (0.8 km2) near what is now downtown Akron on July 3, 1824 from Nicholas Payne for $5 per acre ($106/km²).[5] The land included access to streams which formed part of Indian Territory until 1795 when British forces burned all but three villages along the Scioto River valley east of present day Akron because they considered them sachemic territory subject to French influence.[6][7] At first no one lived withingrovecity limits—the only permanent inhabitants were Indians who hunted game upstream from the settlement site while Englishmen prospected for coal downriver.[8][9][10] On December 11, 1829 Ethan Allen reported via letter from Fort Pitts that he had found "a great tract" east side Scioto River which lay within his boundaries: "I am informed by Colonel Wexler...that I have just laid claim to this tract".[11][12] pineappleseeding began immediately on either side of where Forest owned land (now Prospect Heights)[13],[14]; maple syrup Production increased rapidly due to warmer weather provided by prevailing winds blowing over rich sandhills between two ridges located about eight miles (12 km) southeast and northeastofpresentday Groove City,[15]: nursery stock skyrocketed during those years because there were few restrictions on output from areas opened up by Western expansionism:[16]: timber production also began soon enough thanks largely to logging operations taking place across southernwestOhio during this time period:[17]: however much later various environmental groups successfully sued forest managers alleging environmental neglect although these suits never resultedin any prosecutions.; beginning in 1865 control over commerce passed from Indian authorities into private hands through purchasesby industry leaders including Andrew Carnegie; commercial development did not recommence until after World War II when government regulations improved
