By 1870, there were six stores, eight hotels and ten boardinghouses in town with a population of 462 people In 1895-96 when Mariottta's postmaster John Cockerill successfully lobbied Congress to pass a bill providing postal service between Cincinnati and Washington D.C., he also founded what would become Oneonta National Bank – one of only two banks west of Chicago that did not merge with other institutions during World War I Oneonta's success helped attract businesses such as Coca-Cola Bottling Plant #1 (now occupied by PepsiCo), General Electric Company's appliance plant #2 (now occupied by Knorr-Bremen) and Wernher Von Braun's rocket engine manufacturing business #3 (later renamed Hughes Aircraft). At this time, most of central Ohio lay within Frenchy Township and so that name stuck; however, by 1860, allusions to "AthENS" were being used more and more among residents as part of their local dialects throughout central Ohio - an indication that there may have been something special about this place since before 1800 (the original grantees included Revolutionary War hero Simon Fraser). In 1836 when Athens COUNTY was created from portions of Frenchy Township and Scioto County, a new courthouse and jail were built on Third Street between Euclid Avenue and State Road 37 just south of what is now Good Samaritan Hospital campus across from Dayton's Department Store which opened in 1865 as one of four department stores along First Avenue north today known collectively as Dayton's Center Mall - also home to Macy’s Department Store (now JCPenney) when it opened its doors on December 15th 1903). It wasn't until 1907 when Cincinnati took over responsibility for Athenians' government when county commissioners were removed from both cities due to fire code violations at the old courthouse which caused great inconvenience for citizens trying to get services including water or sewer service located close by unlike today where these services are available right outside your door!
