In 1836, the General Assembly of Ohio passed a bill designating Maumee as the “Place of First Shots in Ohio.” The first gun targets were set up at this location on November 4, 1836. At this time, the rifle range was located near the present day site of Veterans Memorial Coliseum and across from the now defunct Toledo Arsenal which produced artillery ammunition. The rifle range was used by both militia and professional troops during the American Civil War. In 1865, after Union forces took over Cincinnati, they abandoned Maumee and replaced it with a new military arsenal just outside town limits. This made it difficult for citizens to use the old rifle range as a target practice ground. Nevertheless, marksmen from surrounding villages continued to use it until 1903 when it became part of the Toledo Arsenal complex again into which shells were thrown during World War I munitions production. When World War II began in 1939, Target Master developed early warning receivers for planes that allowed pilots to spot enemy submarines before they could torpedo their ships or planes. After Pearl Harbor happened in December 1941, President Franklin D Roosevelt called for an all-out effort against Japan using any means necessary including retaliation against Pearl Harbor targets such as radio ranges and gun targets like those at Maumee

The history of guns in Maumee, Ohio dates back to the early 1800s. The first gun in Maumee was a pump shotgun used by the farmers and hunters. By 1827, there were twogun stores in town and around this time, pistols and rifles also started to be sold. In 1848, a blacksmith named Elijah Chapman began working in town and soon became known for his high quality firearms. He continued to make weapons until his death in 1865. In 1871, eight years after Elijah Chapman's death, Samuel Colt begins manufacturing pistols in Maumee. This led to an increase in gun sales throughout the village as people began to feel more secure with their firearms. During World War II, the village had an operations center where local officials could order and receive munitions from various suppliers. This gave rise to another industry within the village- armament production. After the war ended, many of these businesses closed down due to economic recession. However, some have kept on going including Samuel Colt Ammunition which still operates today as a small business within the community of Maumee Junction

The population was 21,723 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Lucas County after Cleveland and Akron. It is located on the Maumee River; it has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa) with hot summers and mild to cool winters. A post office called "Maumee" was established in 1836, but no town developed around it until 1872 when the name was changed to "Maumee City". In 1907, Maumee became part of the present-day Lucas County system. The city's rapid growth led to an increased number of businesses and residences downtown as well as an increase in traffic congestion on I-675W which caused problems for years until they were solved by building new highways out of older streets. The current skyline view from I-675W can be seen looking downriver towards Toledo proper while looking upstream towards downtown Maumee; this makes for a great photo op if you are driving through town on your way to somewhere else! Maumee, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Maumee Township. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,869. The name means "place where waves crash." The town was founded in 1824 by George Stephenson and named for his wife's family home in Scotland, Loch Awech (meaning "the wharf"). In 1825, Stephenson built a steamboat pier on the Scioto River, which became one of the first commercial ports in what is now Ohio. The town grew rapidly during the nineteenth century because it was near major trade centers such as Toledo and Cincinnati.During World War I, Maumee processed munitions for General Electric Company. After the war ended, many businesses closed down; however, two successful new ones – pet supplies store PetSmart and tire dealership Tires Unlimited – kept Maumee alive until they went out of business in 2006 and 2007 respectively.In 2000, MaumEE joined with other townships to form Lucas County.[2] Growth slowed after 2004 as changes took place with cable TV providers and online music services replacing physical stores downtown; however new businesses have started to open up since then including an art gallery[3], organic farm,[4], gift shop,[5] restaurant[6], health club[7], hair salon[8], pawnshop,[9][10] mobile home park,[11] grocery store[12][13][14][15], welding school,[16][17] doctor's office[18],[19],[20] and four-lane highway (US Route 224).[21]. The history of Maumee goes back before George Stephenson even came to America! His ancestor Major John Stephenson settled hereabouts about 1795 when he landed from Glasgow on HMS Resolution (a British ship) after being lost at sea while searching for a Northwest Passage.[22] Another early settler were Isaac Humphreys who arrived about 1800 on an American brigantine called Eichelnesser following a long journey from Glasgow via Liverpool/Chesterholm Heading Northeastward along today's Muskingum River valley into present day northeastern Ohio.]23 Humphreys had three sons: James Humphreys who platted what is now North Canton (also known as Greenfield), Indiana Territory in 1800; Hugh Humphreys who located what is now Ottawa County OH in 1802;and Peter Humphrey who located what is now Delaware County PA between 1810-1811.]24 James Humphreys did more than just platting areas - he also began developing this area into one of central Ohio's most important farming communities.- James Humphreys started off by building himself a dam across Little Miami River between Greenfield Village & Ottawa Hills in 1800.– This made irrigation possible for his entire community & allowed them to grow corn (& other crops) very successfully.– By 1828 there were over 100 farmers living hereabouts.– By 1850 there were over 1 900 residents living hereabouts.– James Humphrey also purchased land east of Ottawa Hills & developed that area into present day Delaware County PA.#James HUGHES– OneofthefoundersofOttawaCountyOH&DelawareCountyPA
The first European to establish a permanent residence in the area was Nicholas Kaloyan, who arrived in 1690. The town of Maumee was founded by French traders in 1788. The earliest inhabitants of the area were Shawnees, who hunted and fished in the Great Lakes region. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's army defeated the British at Battle of Fallen Timbers and began an expansion of the United States that would eventually lead to Ohio becoming part of the country.
