In the early 1800s, rifles were a common sight in Maumee. The town was founded by French colonists in 1788 and had a rifle shop on Main Street. Rifle stocks were made of wood or metal and could be customized to fit the specific shooter. The town's rifle manufacturer, LaFayette Armory, produced high-quality rifles that are still used today. In 1827, John Fritchey opened a gunsmith business in Maumee and began making rifle stocks for other businesses in the town. He also became known for his work on artillery pieces and pistols. In 1892, LaFayette Armory merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to become Winchester Arms Company. At this time, rifle stocks were no longer produced individually but were now standardized into various types that could be purchased from different companies. In 1926, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRA). This company continued to produce rifles and shotguns until it was sold to Browning Firearms Corporation in 1986. Maumee, Ohio is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,713 at the 2010 census. The name of the community is derived from the Maumee River. It was founded in 1824 by General David Wilkinson and named for him. The first settlers located here were Quakers who built a small cabin on the banks of the river. After years of growth and development, Maumee took its final form as a town in 1836 when it was platted by Colonel John Pritchard and others under the name of "Ville Platte." In 1840, it became part of the newly organized Lucas County and remained so until its annexation by Toledo in 1934. The land that now makes up Maumee was originally covered with forested hills which provided cover for Native Americans during wintertime when they hunted game near their villages outside of Cleveland. By 1800, these woods had been reduced to an area less than one-quarter square mile (0.8 km2). A group of men led by Captain James Moncrieffe began clearing land for farming around what is now known as Westlake Mall while other members of his group continued hunting and gathering resources nearby. When they completed their work, they found themselves sandwiched between two difficult mountain ranges – one running north-south and one running east-west – rendering them vulnerable to attack from either side should their neighbours decide to expand into their territory. As time went on, more people moved into this rural area because there were more opportunities for farming or fur trading because of new transportation methods developed during this period such as steamboats which allowed goods to be transported great distances without being lost or stolen like horses could have been before. Farming practices at this time included growing corn, beans, peas, squash and other vegetables; raising livestock such as hogs, cows and pigs;chinging wood; Manufactured items such as wagons wheelbarrows canoes carts barrels chests children's playhouses fiddles guitars) were also common throughout much of Ohio during this era even though these products did not become popular until after the American Revolution started in 1775! Maumee, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was founded in 1814 by General George Washington and his army during the War for Independence. The population was 5,829 at the 2010 census. Maumee is located on the Maumee River near its confluence with the Muskingum River. The Battle of Fallen Timbers took place on October 25, 1794, when British regulars under Admiral Sir John Johnson attacked American forces led by General Henry Clinton at Fallen Timbers Hill in present-day Maumee Township. The battle resulted in a heavy loss for both sides and has been cited as one of the decisive engagements of the war. In 1800, Captain James Kappe of the United States Navy established a trading post at Maumee which later became known as Kappe's Landing (now part of downtown). In 1806, John Stephenson built a gristmill on Little Miami River south of town and started to process flour from maize growers around Great Lakes region. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1811 but Stephenson rebuilt it and continued to operate it until 1840 when he sold it to Nicholas Timothy Italianate Company Limited (NTC) which renamed it Rome Mills Incorporated. In 1861, Rome Mills merged into Cincinnati flour company US Flour Co., through which it continued to operate until 1922 when it changed hands again and became part of Toledo Mill Co., Ltd.. Italtowns also grew up around this time; according to local history books "the first store opened here about 1860" (Ulysses S Grant Park), though no evidence exists to support this claim other than statements made by locals themselves or historical documents documenting this time period. According to historian David Beardsley Jr.: "The first commercial enterprise developed along Main Street [in downtown] may have been started by Nicholas Timothy Italianate Company Limited...about 1830." However definitive proof exists that an Italtown had indeed sprung up around what is now Grant Park only after 1870; this dates back to affidavits filed with city government records detailing land purchases from unique individuals associated with Thatchers Department Store located just east of Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue beginning in 1870 - specifically two men named Wm Hodge and Hiram Biddle who purchased over 1/4 acre within sight of where Italia's Stores now stands - soon becoming known as Grant Park due to its location alone!
