Ammo has a long and detailed history in New Franklin, Ohio. The town was founded by James W. Stephenson in 1827 as the county seat of Cuyahoga County. Ammunition production at the Cannon Factory continued through World War II and into peacetime until 1971 when it ended due to budgetary constraints caused by increased armament requirements during the Vietnam War. The factory reopened in 1984 as a plant producing small arms ammo under licence from FN Herstal AG of Germany. However, after several years of operation, it closed again due to economic difficulties and Laycock & Reed took over operations from 1984 until 2000 when they sold it outright to Magnum Research Corporation effective 1 July 2000 Since then, laydown (the process of manufacturing rounds) at the Cannon Factory has been conducted using two new manufacturing plants - one produces rifle bullets while another produces handgun cartridges under license from Glock USA LLC After years of research and development by both laydown companies subsidiary companies have gradually emerged that can compete head-to-head with leading manufactures on price/quality/Service levels

New Franklin was named for General George Washington's plantation at Mount Vernon in Virginia, which had been confiscated from him during the Revolutionary War. The General donated the land to the town, which became one of the largest settlements on the Great Lakes region. The early years of New Franklin were difficult; many of its residents were refugees from wars in Europe and North America. However, over time New Franklin developed into an important node on the regional trade network. Its merchants Provided goods and services to both local farmers and traders throughout central Ohio. In addition to their businesses, many of these men also invested their time and money in civic organizations such as school boards and library systems. In 1810, General David Blount erected a gristmill on Black Creek near present-day Athensville. This mill quickly became one of New Franklin's most important economic assets; it furnished flour for local bread shops and helped support local manufactures such as saddles and hats. In addition to his milling operations, Blount also founded a hotel (later renamed The Star) and a post office within New Franklin itself. These institutions remain important today; they provide hospitality to visitors who visit central Ohio during visits to Columbus or other nearby cities.

New Franklin was founded by two brothers, James and John Franklin in 1799. It was the first town in what is now Ohio. The name means "new" or "young." In 1812, New Franklin became the capital of the United States.
