Ammunition history in New Franklin, Ohio began with the first shot heard in the area on July 18, 1814. That day, a party of Indians attacked a white settler and his family while they were taking lunch at a farm on the Indian reservation. The settler's rifle was used to shoot two of the Indians dead and one of them taken prisoner. The settlers soon realized that ammunition was necessary to protect themselves from future attacks by the Indians, so they set out to find suitable land for their new settlement. In 1828, John Denton established a small store in what is now New Franklin. He bought some supplies from traders downriver and soon began selling Ammunition to farmers and others in the area. In 1830, he built a large frame house on what is now State Street in New Franklin. He named it after his friend Moses Woodbury who had donated land for the town site. The first storekeeper in New Franklin was James Gist who opened his business on Main Street in 1838. From 1840-1845,Samuel Fenton ran an ammunition store on North State Street near present-day High School before moving his business to what is now First National Bank building on Third Avenue in 1850. In 1857, Horace Greeley opened an ammunition store at 9th and Erie Streets which continues operations today as Greeley's Sporting Goods located across from High School (now American Legion). In 1865-1868, Elisha Dowell operated an ammo warehouse at 344 Elmira Street which is still extant today as Dowell's Ammo and Guns Emporium located inside Freedom Hall Complex off I-75W just east of US 50/US 25 (New Franklin). In 1870s & 1880s various brothers operated stores throughout Ohio including: Frank Wagoner (opened shop at 247 Elmira St., closed 1886), George Ahern (Opened shop at 525 Clinton Ave., closed 1888), John Haggerty (opened shop at 636 Washington Ave., closed 1890), Michael Purdy (opened shop at 855 Delaware Ave., closed 1893) It should be noted that these businesses were not actually open long enough or well enough into their respective decades for them to be considered "ammunition stores." Rather they specialized rather than exclusively selling Ammunition such as rifles or shotguns etc..

New Franklin is a village in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Muncie–Dayton metropolitan area. New Franklin was founded on December 4, 1801 by David Wilkinson and others as a post office called "Cincinnati." On July 1, 1803 it became the town of New Franklin. New Franklin's original courthouse was burned down in 1807; a new one was built and used until 1830. In 1824 the town became the city of New Franklin when it seceded from Butler County to become its own municipality. The city limits were changed in 1868 to include all of Butler County east of the Cuyahoga River. When New Franklin incorporated as a city, it had an enrollment of 16,566 people and six schools: three high schools and three day academies. In 1907-08 the city annexed parts of Beech Township to increase its enrollment to 32 accounts before reverting back to its original maximum size in 1908-09 when only 24 residents lived within its current boundaries. In 1916-17 there were only 10 residents living within its current boundaries; however, due to generous donations from Mrs. Fannie Payne (the wife of millionaire General Electric founder George Washington Payne) City Hall began construction on what would become known as "The Great White Way" which runs through downtown New Franklin linking many businesses and services that are found outside its borders: including those located in communities such as Price Hill (to the north), West Side (to the south), East Side (to the east), Parma Heights (in Sycamore Township to their south) and more In 1931-32 one family donated land for what would become Lincoln Park which now offers public recreation including baseball diamonds, basketball courts and playgrounds for children with or without disabilities In 1951-52 another family donated land for what would become Haupt Elementary School which currently houses grades PK - 6th grade along with full offices for school board members and other municipal staff On November 17th 2020 voters passed initiative #1 approving annexation into Dayton by neighboring Perrysburg – ending over two decades of discussion about annexing into Dayton . This vote followed years worth research led by Mayor John Haggerty who believed that failure to annex would result in increased taxes levied on both villages while also losing access important infrastructure such as state highways running through both municipalities

New Franklin was founded in 1800 by Peter Cushman and others as a new town in the area now known as Lucas County. The town was named after General George Washington, who had fought in the American Revolution. New Franklin grew rapidly due to its natural resources, which included coal and oil shale. In 1822, New Franklin became the county seat of Lucas County. The town was destroyed in a fire on December 12, 1828. It is believed that the fire resulted from an over-the-top celebration for Christmas at the local hotel. Thebable reason for this event is still unknown but it has been speculated that some members of the community were too drunk or high on drugs to notice when their building started catch on fire. New Franklin experienced another growth period following World War II when many people moved into the town because of its proximity to military facilities located nearby such as Fort Knox and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After the war ended, however, most of these residents left New Franklin due to housing and job shortages during peacetime. In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in preserving aspects of New Franklin history including its architecture and culture. This trend began with efforts by local historians to document and preserve Old Main Street which figured prominently in early New Franklin history. As more people learn about what happened here during earlier times, they are also beginning to explore other aspects of township life such as summer festivals and Fourth Of July celebrations that have longstanding traditions in this community
New Franklin was founded in 1795 by Captain John Andreae and his wife, Mercy. The town was named after General George Washington's hometown of Newburgh, New York. The first store in the town was built by Captain Andreae and his family. In 1804, the town received a post office from Portsmouth, Ohio. New Franklin grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its strategic location on the Scioto River and its trade with nearby Toledo and Dayton. By 1870, the population of New Franklin had reached 2,500 residents.During World War I, many soldiers from New Franklin served in the military as nurses or medical aides.In 1924, Mayor Copley dedicated a new library building to help improve education in the community.The local economy experienced significant decline during the late 20th century due to changes in agricultural production and industrialization throughout much of southern Ohio.
