In 1830, John Dennison opened a tannery on Prospect Avenue on the edge of today's Cleveland Hopkins International Airport; it soon became one of America's largest tanneries. Dennison left his business to his son-in-law Samuel Morse and daughter Mabel Morse Lyon in 1868; they renamed their enterprise The American Tannery Co., Incorporated (ATT). ATT continued to produce quality tanning products until its closing in 1990s. In 1907–1908, Shaker Heights erected its first public building: a white frame schoolhouse called Hope Chapel which served grades K-8 until 1959 when an addition gave rise to Euclid High School which serves students through 11th grade today. During World War II many local businesses produced munitions for Allied forces; some examples are GEICO Tire & Rubber Company (now Goodyear Tire & Rubber), Wernher Glass Company No.(WG&A), Fidelity National Bank Building #2(FNBF), and Parma Glass Works No.(PWP). After the war ended many shingles were taken off roofs as part of cleanup efforts following bombings during the Korean War; these shingles can be seen at various locations around town including Greenfield Village Shopping Center and Western Reserve Plaza mall where they once lined paths between buildings! Shaker Heights is bordered on the north by Euclid Avenue, on the east by Brookline Avenue, and on the south by Niles Road. It is bordered on three sides by neighborhoods: Northside, Old North Side, and West Side. The first settlers in what is now Shaker Heights were Baptist missionaries who arrived from Canterbury, England in 1781. They built their own shantytown called Harmony Hall near where they now live on Euclid Avenue between East Second and East Third Streets close to today's Good Samaritan Hospital and Wawa Inc.). They also founded a school which eventually became John Taylor University (now known as Vanderbilt University). In 1837, when Cleveland accepted incorporation as a city, shingle-throwing mobs set fire to buildings throughout downtown while rioters marched through central City chanting "Hate no one" - this was followed two years later with riots over joblessness rates following restrictive liquor laws enacted at Mayor Richardson's behest. It wasn't until 1840 that shingle throwing ceased completely although windows were still broken for several years after then; it seemed that many people had turned their backs on civilization due to economics reasons at that time (&shippingDepots remained open during this time) ....In 1849 Elihu Root organized local farmers into a cooperative society he named “The Western Reserve” which included parts of Shaker Heights .... This group purchased land west of what is now Grayslake Boulevard (then part of Cincinnati) from David Thompson for $3 million .... In 1862 they sold most or all of their land to Edwin Mellen who bought it from Root for $5 million .... By 1890 there were less than fifty residents living within its limits ......In 1903 Alfred Pfeiffer moved his business software company from Chicago to become owner/operator of The National Cement Company which operated out of Building 809 adjacent to where he lived at 609 Superior Street ............. By 1910 there were only ten residents living within its limits .......... prosperous cotton mills closed up shop around 1920 ..........and numerous businesses including shops like Bick’s Camera & supplier store moved out .........................the last resident left in 1925 ...............Today much evidence remains pointing towards increased urban sprawl/ gentrification happening within blocks away......................

Shaker Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Mahoning County. The population was 66,819 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Mahoning County by population. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The area that would become Shaker Heights was originally settled by settlers from England in 1788. The first post office was established in 1814 and named for Sir Richard Shaker, an Englishman who had come to America as a missionary. In 1835, the town became an Egyptian colony when large numbers of African Americans immigrated to the United States after becoming freed slaves during the American Civil War. Afterward, Shaker Heights grew rapidly as a result of its strategic location on two major trade routes—the Great Lakes Road and US 421—and its close proximity to Cleveland and Akron businesses. In 1951, Shaker Heights annexed part of neighboring Union Township; this annexation created what is now known as North Unionville Neighborhoods Historic District. In 1970, Shaker Heights annexed neighbouring East Liverpool Township; this annexation created what is now known as South Unionville Neighborhoods Historic District. In 2000, Shaker Heights voters passed a resolution recognizing Mayberry Place Historical Monument as a national historic landmark due to its significant role in American culture and history since 1800. The designation allowed for greater access to public resources within the neighborhood including education programs about Mayberry's history and culture offered through local museums.

In 2006, following approval from Mayor Frank Jackson Jr., Shaker Heights began construction on a new downtown district that would include restaurants and shops along with public square space.

In 2009-2013, mayor Joe Sacco unveiled plans for an affordable housing development called “The Village” which will provide up to 50% affordable housing units across multiple buildings.

As of 2019 there has been no confirmation or announcement regarding any further updates or progress on these plans.
