In 1926, Cincinnati-based Jens Weidmann donated an additional 640 acres (248 ha) to make University Heights into a town with its own police department and fire department; this donation helped make University Heights one of America's first planned cities. The population reached 25,565 as of 2010 census figures, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in Ohio; however, it has been predicted that University Heights will reach 31,872 by 2020 due to its strong economic growth and continued investment in education initiatives. Despite its rapid growth rate, some challenges remain for University Heights such as low levels of job diversity and lagging housing prices relative to other local communities; nevertheless, Mayor Kevin Brady believes that these issues are preventable without more concerted effort from City Hall and citizens alike. Today there are many businesses that have grown up around downtown Campus Martius including Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (now Tyco Tire), AmerisourceBergen Corporation (now AFP Financial Services), HSBC Bank USA (now HSBC Holdings Plc), Apple Inc., Boeing Co., IBM Corp., Ford Motor Co., PNC Financial Services Group (now PNC Financial Solutions LLC), American Express Company (), Sears Holdings Corporation (), Nationwide Children's Hospital () - which opened their doors in 1989 - as well as numerous restaurants and cafes along Central Avenue ().

University Heights, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Village of University Heights, Inc. It is located in Hamilton County on the border with Butler County. The population was 30,569 as of 2016.[1] The village was founded in 1892 by Horace Mann School President George S. Prentice and his wife Anna Hood Prentice after their children were born at home in University Heights. In 1902, the village became a part of the larger Village of University Heights Inc., which had been created by an act of Congress following the creation of Hamilton County. The townspeople voted to become its own municipality on November 3, 1903; they did so without consulting with or consent from either the school president or Anna Hood Prentice – who continued to live in University Heights until her death in 1916 at age 94[2]. When United States Senator James Murchison served as mayor from 1906-1910, he chose to reside in Villa Park because it was closer to his Senate office than Columbus where he lived during most of that time[3]. During World War I, Villa Park became home to many American military personnel stationed throughout Europe due to shortages within Columbus; some Soldiers' Home units also resided there[4]. After World War II ended, many soldiers and their families returned to America and Villa Park lost much activity as new housing developments sprang up around it[5]. However, gradually over time Villa Park regained some popularity among locals for its quiet streetscapes and overall sense of communityliness (it even achieved city status twice). In 2006, construction began on what would become one of Cincinnati's first high-rise apartments buildings called University Towers; this project brought about significant controversy as it directly targeted a neighborhood characterized by low levels of traffic congestion and limited access to cultural institutions such as theaters/theaters and libraries[6][7][8][9]; nevertheless,[10] when finished two years later it drew acclaim from residents for its sleek modern design,[11][12] while also helping revive downtown Cincinnati’s fortunes since area businesses could now compete more freely against chain stores(though this development came at a cost: increased traffic congestion)[13]). In recognition bothof this success,[14][15], City Council passed an ordinance establishingUniversity Hills Neighborhood Development Corporation (UHNDC)to promote sustainable development within University Towers complex; under UHNDC management all , commercial uses within blocks surroundingUHNDC properties are discouraged except for ceremonial events open only to members [16]; such events are typically open unto all citizens regardlessof wealth or social status however private gatherings may be scheduled through special inviteesuch as business moguls or celebrities
